Blower surge, it can be tuned out but most exhibition racers i.e. little red wagon, hemi under glass, leave it for dramatic effect, and some even add 15-25 percent nitro for a little extra bark to the bite.
 
Yeah, I would be happy just having that deal on a run stand to annoy the neighbors with!

Did anyone else notice the litte puffs of tire rubber on each surge?

Man and I thought I went through slicks fast.
 
I love this video. You can hear the tires squawk when he pulls the next gear. It's a 6" rod 331 under those dual quads and a clutch-less 5 speed.

I remember my last cam couldn't hold a very rough idle for more than 10 seconds till it started fading off from that..
I took a good friend for a danger ride and when we got back he said until we got to that straight away and you opened it up I wasn't sure if the car was running good enough to make it back home!
 
I had a guy at the gas station come over to my car and ask, "what's wrong with your car?"

I replied "nothing."

He said, "are you sure? It dosen't sound very good.."

I said, "yeah, I'm sure. That's how its supposed to sound."

I'd say 99 percent of people these days have never heard a rough idle cam....
 
When I was a kid, my daily driver for awhile was a primer grey 69 dart with 4 speed and 3.91 gear. Engine was a wore out later model 318 with headers, 340 intake and an old crane fireball cam. People were always asking what's wrong with it, until I dumped the clutch at 4grand and ran it through the gears

I remember one of my buddies had his teenage son over and we were starting the car in the garage which gives it the ultra Echo effect but it was there idling as best it could LOL and the kid said it sounds like it's going to die?! My buddy and I looked at each other with a big knowing grin and said "I know!"
 
Blower surge, while sounding cool is a sign of one of two things. Either stupidity, because they want it to sound that way, or ignorance, because they cannot tune it out. It's terrible on an engine. It beats crankshaft bearings to death. It's a lot more violent than it sounds. I've built blower engines before and tuned that out.......only to have one customer insist that I did not. He kept blowing teflon seals off the rotors. Finally called me back and got me to tune it out. Never had another problem........until he blew it up runnin a Mopar. lol

Funny, I don't consider tuning on the LEGENDARY slant six a fall.
