Hey all,

I'm from Oklahoma, and happened upon this 67 Barracuda while hunting bumpers for my VW. Driving backroads, looking for Beetle field ornaments, my brother saw a couple old guys sitting outside a barn (old smoke house w/ metal building attached) and we decided to stop and ask them.

There was a 68 C10 sitting out front that looked like it hadn't run in several years and the back end of a 64 El Camino sticking out of the barn. Metal signs hanging everywhere.

While shooting the breeze and enjoying a cold beverage, my brother asked about the cars and the guy says 'everythings for sale'. Looking through the smoke house, through an open back door into the attached metal building i can see a fender, but only about the middle third of it. I say 'what's that?'. Him 'oh you wouldnt be interested in that, go on and look at it'.

I asked him what he would have to have for it and he settled on 'somewhere around 8'. Took a few pics and told him id come back the next day when he had a chance to think about it.

Next day he asked what i wanted for my Beetle. We did some negotiating and I ended up trading my 74 Beetle and a little cash for this Cuda.

Id had the beetle about 3 weeks with about 2k in it. The Cuda didn't have a title, and hadnt been tagged or registered since 1999, did have a bad lifter.

Heres what i wound up with, and what i traded....

Only mopars i have delt with are a 47 Plymouth Special Deluxe coupe my grandpa restored, a 48 Plymouth sedan my dad restored, and a 47 Dodge Custom sedan I had a few years. But all those are stock flat 6 cars, this is a different animal for me.

Thanks in advance for any help or encouragement im sure I'll get from you all!

Someone stole the drivers side slots (??) but i got 4 original wheels with redline caps, and trim rings so I mounted tires while hunting ralleye wheels.

Meanwhile....ordered comp cam ex256h kit to take care of the lifter problem. Cam upgrade couldnt hurt either.

Should have pulled the valve covers. When I did, I saw someone had ground valves down basically to the retainers. And the lifter, rod and valve that were making the racket had been replaced due to the rocker pressing on the spring retainer instead of the valve which caused the valve to drop and get slapped by the piston. Fortunately, he had shut it down quickly it appeared because theres only a couple 'smiles' on the piston and no other issues from that.

When i got the cam out, there was a flake out of the second bearing, so motor came out for cam bearings. While i have it out Im replacing cam, rod, and main bearings, oil pump and pick-up, fuel pump, new mini starter, hooker super comp ceramic headers, new 11"clutch kit, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, coil, aluminum radiator, hoses and probably stuff I forgot. The heads are being machined with new valves and the springs etc that came with my comp cam kit.

Registration, tag, tax, and getting a new title court ordered cost about $500, but i got that done last week, and found some ralleye wheels! Put them on and rolled it out to take a pic.

Started putting the locking bead in. Never done that before, and it sucks even with the tool!

Thanks adriver, i feel like I did. Probably the only scenario where wind up with a Barracuda. Surprised me when he asked about the bug! It was a slant 6 auto originally, but I made peace with that prior to getting it. The 318 will do fine when i get it back in. Its a 3 speed A833, and a 8 3/4 rear, 3.23

Awesome find. Heck I was just in Oklahoma last weekend visiting family in Choctaw and Harrah.

Haven’t been to old Germany in 15 years or so. Been in Cali for 20 years now. My sister and brother in law loved that place

I kinda thought Old Germany went down hill the last several years, but spaetzle beats chicken nuggets any day.

I'm in Cushing, for those who dont know its about midway between OKC and Tulsa.

Was this in Drumright? I bet it was the same car. Needs a headliner and carpet. He told me he got a quote from a guy in Drumright for 300 to do both.

No, oddly enough , he was coming out of my country addition, here outside Collinsville. I dropped what I was doing and chased him down , it was before I found my 68 fastback . He was headed west to, I don't know where ---------
$300 to do both , I might jump all over that , if u think he knows what he`s doing. Carpet is nothing , headliner I don't really want to mess with, mines original, afraid to touch it !! LOL

Maybe not the same car then. I know he bought it locally, in Agra in 99, and never tagged or registered it. He could have trailered it up your way though. Small older man, zz top beard, retired lineman, used to own a body shop in Ardmore.

Im tempted on the headliner/carpet. The guy is supposed to be pretty good, but forgetful and SLOW. Just by word of mouth. Ill probably drive it as is a while till i think i can let go of it for an undetermined amount of time....
