Trying to find information on how the brake light switch is supposed to be wired.

By way of background - sorting a newly acquired Valiant (V200). PO had done some very 'creative' wiring, all of which seems to have been to work around a faulty turn signal switch. He had also installed a new brake light switch (probably non-original design) which he connected directly to the battery on one side, and then patched into the brown and green wires to the tail lights at the driver's footwell. In the process (or more likely due to a broken turn signal switch), he also completely disconnected the rear blinkers. To overcome that problem he then mounted new indicators on the rear bodywork and ran wires from the front indicators to the rear to power them...

So far, I have done the following:
  • replaced the turn signal switch
  • removed the 'new' wires from the front indicators to the rear
  • removed the 'new' indicators at the rear
  • re-connected the brown and green wires in the footwell to the original blinkers
All lights now work - sort of. The problem I now have is that, because the brake pedal switch is still directly patched to the brown and green wires in the footwell, as soon as you press the brake ALL blinkers stop working. Brake lights are on, but front and rear blinkers stop flashing while the brake is pressed.

What I'd like to do is work out how to connect the brake pedal wiring correctly to restore full and safe functionality. I have not been able to find a wiring diagram that shows the brake pedal wiring...and even if I did, I wouldn't know where to look for where to re-connect into the harness.

Can anyone shed light/pictures etc on this to help me fix it properly?

All help very much appreciated...

Thanks for these. Very helpful. As far as I can tell from these diagrams the stop switch is wired to the directional indicator switch (white) and power (pink). Which seems pretty straightforward. Another wiring diagram I eventually found in the 1964 Valiant service manual shows the white connecting to the headlamp switch. My bet is that my manual is wrong...anyone know for sure?

If it's a Chrysler printed manual, my bet would be it's correct.

Pink at brake lamp switch is positive supply, hot at all times, should come from fuse box.
White from brake lamp switch into turn signal switch is correct. The contacts in that switch determine will the green and brown wires be connected to brake lamp or turn lamp since same element in a 1157 bulb is used for both. There are total of 4 wires for turn at turn signal switch, left front, right front, left rear, right rear. That green and brown for rears of course, then the other 2 are lighter green and I forget, tan? or yellow? And a backfeed from brake circuit could stop front turn from flashing.

Thanks for this. Heading home as I write to re-wire accordingly. Feeling optimistic...so far!

Thanks again to all for your input. I found the harness connections for pink and white and reconnected the brake switch properly. All now works as it should!
