Deathtrap, My 74 Plymouth Scamp

-
Been busy and haven’t had a chance to update everyone. I got my car started on Jan 2, broke in the cam, adjusted my shifter and kick down, and got to take it for a first drive! Everything was working well so I said a prayer and took the 3 hour drive from where it was stored to where I was living. Car made the trip with only a small vibration and small exhuast leak. Been able to drive it to work and back multiple times and now I’m to the point where I will be doing my first oil change and going over everything on the car and double checking

Its really bad on decal after about 70. I'm getting new tires this weekend and upon closer inspection today I found that the motor mount bolts were loose and seem to be the wrong size. So getting new bolts and correcting that tomorrow afternoon along with new Percy Seal 4 Good exhaust gaskets. Hoping those work with my old headers and are able to seal up well. Hopefully with the motor mounts fixed and new tires my vibration will be gone.

Hey everyone I just wanted to finally stop and give a quick update. I ended up buying a house and have done very little with my Scamp.

I was able to find out what my vibration is and turns out my torque converter has a weight on it because it was set up for a 360. from my little research I need to get a new neutral balance torque sense my 318 is internally balanced vs the 360 being external balanced. My plan is to run around a 2000 stall converter for a nice street strip set up. B&M Tork Master Torque Converters 10416 and the Hughes Performance Street Rod Torque Converters 24-20 are what I am currently looking at to use. Does anyone have any experience with these?

While I'm doing the work to the trans I plan on installing a separate transmission fluid cooler and routing my lines differently sense the ones I have rub against the motor and are to close to the headers for my comfort. Any suggestions on what to use for my line to the new cooler?

Yep that will do it.
Congratulations on the house! Its funny how stuff like mortgages and Bill's can slow down our projects. Haha I'm in the same boat it's taking me forever!!

Knock the weight off of the converter, it can be done with the trans in the car, just remove the starter, and dust shield behind it.

I considered that but wasn’t sure if it would be neutral balanced without that. Have you done this?

I haven't, and while I'm not the biggest advocate of imprecise balancing, it will get you going without having to break it apart...worst case, maybe some careful grinding around the weight and chisel work and you should be in business...

The difference in the two converters is just the weight.

Wow almost a year later but I have some updates. I ended up putting the car on a buddies lift and removing the converter. Shaved off the weights and slammed it back together. Was able to finally drive it with way less vibration finally. Been driving it and enjoying but I honestly miss the 904 with a shift kit in it. I still have it sitting in a storage unit at home so I think I will be getting that and trying to rebuild it by myself. I have also found that I am having a braking issue. It seems that my brake are holding pressure If i hit them to hard and not releasing fully. I want to go through and do a suspension rebuild and change out my rear for a ford 8.8 but we will see what actually happens this summer! I will be uploading some photos later to share with you guys!

Bad brake hose is one cause.
I had a disc brake caliper hang up, phenolic piston was worn and would **** in the bore after a hard brake application. That one was easy to find, could smell pads burning and wheel would get hot. Smack with a hammer and good to go. Did finally change calipers.
