Guys I'm working on a 64 Dart(currently /6) that I'm putting in a 340 with a 6pack. I'm wondering if the stock T/A air cleaner will fit in the car. It looks like the hood torsion bars might inerfer. Does anyone have the setup in an early A? Or can you give me a dimension from the rear carb stud to the torsion bar?

Thanks, Gary

Doug Dutra ("Doc" and "Doctor Dodge" over on .org when it's back up and running) built a 340-6pack '63 or '64 Dart many years ago; he probably knows exactly the answer to your question.

If you find the hood torsion bars interfere with the 6 pak air cleaner, you might consider getting rid of the bars and converting to gas struts. I am doing that on my 65 wagon to give it a cleaner look under the hood.

I like Dartmans idea of using gas struts if I have to.

The AC assy i have is the AAR/TA one that Rustycowl described, I'll try and get a pic today.

72 Dart, does that one fit?

Yes you can,I have one on my 65 and it just clears.I do have a torque bar going from the head to the frame so
I dont know if there will be a issue with out it.Not a 340 but a healthy 318 but should work the same.

Oh and it clears the hood bars.....

Look at all those ripples on that bottom base. Yikes. Quality has gone to hell.

I had noticed that too.Mine was new 20 years ago and is(was) nice.I had the base cut so all of that extra metal hanging down
is gone, looks a lot cleaner to my eyes.

By how much? would it possible to get a measurement from the rear air cleaner stud to the hood bars of firewall?
I do plan on a torque bar/engine strap on mine also.
Another q, does it fit under the hood?

thanks,
Gary.

Yes,it does fit under the hood, but sorry,I cant help with pictures as I have it in storage for the winter.Yeah, without the torque brace I think it would hit when the motor torques.I will try and find a picture and post it........

Hey 72Dart6pack, I realize this is an older post but.......I have your set up that I want to installation a '71 340 Demon. Wondering if there are any clearance issues. Thanks.
@6pk2goDemon has a similar set up too I believe.

I have one in a 70 Duster, you need a 3 speed wiper motor, as the 2 speed one will interfere with the air cleaner

Thanks for the 3 speed wiper motor tip. Are the 3 speeds all the same between the body platforms?
