right here ...see me I'm waving.. NY
Back in the first muscle car heyday the government regulations, gas prices and high insurance rates combined to end the muscle car.

I was wondering what the insurance rate is for the new found horsepower kings of today. Is there a large premium for modern big horsepower cars as there was back in the day??

I paid $750 for 6 months coverage on my 2012 Challenger R/T, and it was just a 5.7 6-speed manual.
Traded it in on a 2017 Ram 3500 6.4 auto and the insurance dropped to $250 for the same 6 month full coverage.

My son, 19 years old, pays just over 800 every 6 months for full coverage on his '15 Scat Pack Challenger. 19 years of age and 500 hp? yeah....

I have Hagertys on my 2007 Mustang GT. I dont drive it a whole lot maybe 1,000 miles per year since I am busy as heck. married, over 50, no tickets or accidents, garage stored, all the usual questions. Car with agreed value with all my added toys is 18,500 ACV if total loss. $450 per year. Hagertys calls the new muscle cars modern classics and will insure them.

My insurance agent friend who insures my home and cars owns a purple R/T Scat Pack Shaker Challenger. It's also a low mileage modern classic. He said insurance thru him (Allstate) on his Challenger would leave his *** hangin out in event of total loss. He said Allstate would give him blue book for it. Maybe $10k. He switched to Hagertys on it last year since his own company couldn't beat that deal. They insured it for an ACV of $30K if it's a total loss. He called Hagertys for me, and we set it all up.

I have no idea as my admin asst. takes care of all that. But I will ask her. As long as I do whatever she says it is all good! I think we may bundle it so not sure she will know. We have a 15 Scatpack plated. I will check with her.

Yeah i have had the same experience, i have been getting Quotes from my reg ins co "State Farm "crooks"
somthing like $200 a month Hagerty approx $500 a year over 50 no accidents either

My ‘05 Grand Caravan, ‘06 Charger SRT and my ‘12 Chrysler 300C Hemi daily drivers all cost me about the same...$80 per month each through Nationwide for 2 drivers on the policy.

My ‘69 GTS costs me $350 per year through Hagerty with an agreed value of $35k.

I’m 55 years old and my wife is 54, both of us with clean driving records.

I have been with Nationwide for about 30 years and insure my home and rental property with them also. Bundling my insurance takes advantage of their multi-policy discounts.

Wow! That is a huge difference and the truck worth a whole lot more too! That's crazy! I have been back and forth on a challenger for a while. I really want one but they are not very practical for what I need as far as my transportation requirements go.
For one I have to have hauling cargo room. I use my truck alot. I have to haul trash, I frequently use it for yard work and housework, so I'm hauling lumber, mulch, gravel, appliances, whatever else very often. So a car just isn't a practical investment. Then there is number 2 I have to have a 4x4 or awd. I live about 40 miles from work and winters can be unpredictable here. I dont have a job I can just call in and miss work due to weather conditions. So a 4x4 is a must. As much as I really want a challenger and i think they would be really fun and enjoyable to have it's just practical for me. And now that I know the insurance is triple that a big one too! Ever since my dodge truck went down last month I have been driving my wife's old mountaineer its awd and I have all the back seats folded down flat and use it like a truck it gets the job done so far. I will be fine until I need more gravel or appliances lol. I used my wife's little Nissan frontier to haul some mulch last week it done fine it is a really nice truck I like it so far!

The car and truck were both paid for.
I had an old truck, when I had the Challenger, it was time for a new truck.
The truck never gets driven, too hard on gas.
I bought a little 4 cyl truck for daily driver, kept the Ram for when I need a real truck.

Pulling my Mustang off met life, and putting it onto Hagertys actually saved me $850 per year, and gave me way better coverage on the mustang and includes towing and roadside assistance on the policy.

I think the reason Hagertys and others are that inexpensive is pretty simple. People with cars like these really care about them, and are not normally going to drive them in ice and snow. They get a lot less use since they are secondary pleasure vehicles, are garage kept most of the time. Average age of a collector car owner is mid 40s to 70s and up, married, owns their own house etc. It's more of an acceptable risk.

Hagerty is a car guy, that also sells insurance to actually insure our old cars in case of an accident. . Whereas insurance companies are total crooked SOB;s that are also have some people that work there and drive a car to the office!?????

Hagerty is a stand up company. IMHO

Honestly if you can swing it look at stripper Toyota 4x4 trucks.
I bought one in the end of February, and like it.
Worst tank of gas was 22 mpg, best tank was 28 mpg, it’s my daily driver.
It drives like a car, with a 6’ bed attached, and it comes with jump seats in the extended cab for kids, or tiny adults.
The sticker was over 30k, but I told them I would only pay 25k, with no trade, and they accepted my offer.
It has two options, key fob and floor mats, but has hauled a lot of Mopar parts.
I put a hitch on the rear, tonight I moved my car trailer with a 70 Cuda on it, it did not like that at all, even in 4-low.
No power, but the trade off for fuel mileage.
Also insurance is cheap $240 6 months full coverage.

As a 22 year old with no accidents or tickets, I pay $127 a month for my 06 Charger RT. No collision coverage, just basic comprehensive with a real high deductible. This may not seem like a good deal , but when I was considering selling that for an '10 Avenger with a 4 cylinder, that same coverage went up to a whopping $260 a month!! And the Charger stayed put lol.
