Wiring solutions

Fred, your plan sounds exactly like what I want to do. Battery in the trunk, hidden wires, bulkhead connector delete, etc. Do please post back so we can follow along with your solution!

Been looking at American Auto wire and appears to be the best I found so far $1039 but looks complete. Any feed back would be great.
Very complete kit, worth checking out the fitting instructions at Classic Update Kit - 1967-75 Mopar A Body to appreciate the Mopar specific detail covered. Quality, finish, instructions and hardware included is all first class. This kit will allow you to replace the bulkhead connector although I won’t be doing a bulkhead fitment as my car didn’t have one originally. What I like about this kit is that it allows plenty of customisation possibilities as well and still integrates with all OE switchgear such as lighting, ignition, wiper etc. I just finished wiring up my custom gauge package and have made it plug in to the rest of the loom using the quick disconnect terminals supplied along with the original light and wiper switches.

You could run a handful of spare wires from under dash to front of the car as well. That’s what they do in commercial planes for spare wires that run tip to tail.

Cal, good idea putting a quick disconnect for your gauges/dash. What gauges are those? Love the look.

Gauges are Speedhut, all sorts of options available (including text and branding) from these guys to achieve the look and function you require. Their website allows you to “build” them online - works really well!

Best conduit I’ve found and used is Painless ClassicBraid Wire Wrap 70970 - split style so easy to apply and reapply with a nice, non plastic look.

I got a restoration trend going and you bet will post it there. Gonna check on what Cal Tonsley suggested that look great.

Looks fantastic what gauges are you using?

I’m far from wiring but I did gut my old harness. It was a mess. I always thought about a universal harness like this one. Not real expensive. No need to tell anyone it has GM style connectors.

Speedway Universal 22 Circuit Wiring Harness

I got that same kit in Speedway's sale for 100 bucks off for 89.99 for my rat truck. Very impressed with the quality. No way in hell would I ever have chosen a 22 circuit harness but BAM there it was so I snagged it.

I have also had direct experience with Ron Francis, which is top notch, Painless, which I despise, the Speedway kit above, PSI, which is for computer controlled systems and replacement factory. Ron Francis is so far about the best, and I would not be surprised to find out that's who makes the Speedway kits. They are nearly identical. At least the one I have is. Whatever you do, I strongly recommend three things. Don't let price dictate your purchase. Get a kit that completely eliminates the firewall connector. Get a kit that's more than what you need. What if you want to add A/C and power windows later? How much extra is it really to add that into the harness now? Not much. Don't be a cheapass now for something you may change your mind on in the future.

Yea Rusty I change my mind a lot. lol
Good info thanks.

I'll suggest EZ wire. They're pretty much like the other generic 22 circuit GM Style kits out there. The only reason I went that route is a) they're local to me and b) the tech guy and main man there is Sean, and he knows his s***.

I'll check it out Having a good tech on duty really helps.

I don't know what route you'll be taking but this is a good read so you are aware of early mopar wiring faults you may want to address .

Larry @LJ67barracuda340 did a beautiful job with his 67 cuda. I paged him so hopefully he will chime in.
hey Steve,, ya I used the Painless Universal Musclecar 22 circuit I think maybe 16, dont remember. I eliminated the bulkhead and ran a single grommet thru the fire wall. All the wires were slid thru braided wrap. Downside of that is it's hard to trouble shoot because its not split. I ran the wires along the left inner fender and then across in front of the rad support. Kept it a bit cleaner. Battery in trunk also. No 50 year old wires to think about.

Hey Larry, Merry Christmas Happy New Year, have you got an engine bay pic?
Thanks for info.

Happy New Year Steve, Ive got to add another number to my years too. Oh well.
fresh pics, last ones of this decade.. It's hard to see cause the wiring is kinda hidden. Stealth wasn't the plan just to look clean. I filled the bulkhead connector and welded it gone. Had to put in two more small grommets this winter to take the Fuel Injection wires out of the main large bundle because of RF noise. With the Painless harness I had to add the A/C and EFI harnesses also. Got tricky for a bit. Under the dash there's a 4 post switched and 4 post unswitched fuse box also. Hope this is help for ya.
