Cleaning the snow off my daily driver this morning, I look down at my license plate, and the stickers say 11, 19

Doh, what the heck.

I seem to remember getting the renewal in the mail. And I think I sat down at the computer and did the on-line renewal, and then forgot about it. Searched the house and truck hi and low and can't find new registration or stickers. I'm thinking I never got them.
So now I get to stop at the renewal office and see what the deal is.

Been driving around for two months with expired plates
 
...and what the "late" penalty amounts to if you didn't order them.
Been there, done that, can't afford the t-shirt because of it.
 
I faithfully renew my plates, but the stickers may "MAY" still say 17
It's a lot of work, cleaning of the license plates and putting a new sticker on there
 
Well, still can't put the new sticker on. He said don't try to put it on if it's wet or cold out.

Right now it's 21 degrees and snowing

Bring the plate into the house to warm up, add the sticker and then put the plate back on the car.
 
The idiots in PA wanted to save .50 for their pocket so they no longer sent out plate stickers. Pisses me off.

The main reason they did it is because all the police cars now have video license plate readers installed that constantly scan every car on the road and actively compare them to the registration database. Since the stickers are now redundant and can also be forged or stolen, no point in having them anymore.

I’m just as happy not having my tax $$ wasted on them anymore.

Virtual registration. Warm and fuzzy that not make me feel.
 
I’m old and I like the visual reminder of the old stickers. Especially since they send them out 3 months early for renewal.

They have us right by the plates all right.
 
Love my Arkansas antique plate, pay the first time, good for the life of the car in your hands.
 
We don't get renewal notices in the mail any longer, see lots of people running around with expired tags daily.

People complain about the government being “nannies” but still want them to remind them to do what they are supposed to remember to do on their own?

I just don’t get it.

Rookie. I bought a utility trailer once and drug it all over hell's half acre for six years when I noticed the plate tag was a wee bit out of date. Like seven years. So I go digging around to see how that happened, and all I can find is the title in the previous owner's name - I never even registered it. Double Doh! :wtf:

I look at more as a "Go ahead, make our day", since the fines are fairly steep. I don't get how people can manage to "forget" when all you need to do is look at the damn plate once in a while, but then again how many cars are on the road with tail lights and or brake lights that don't work.

My tail lights dont expire on my birthday...my plates do

Not sure why you quoted me with this response. I'm saying they are billing just like any other business. For example: Would you like if NAPA did not send you a bill and then start charging you interest? I was quoting Ddaddy.

Is no late penalty here in the Great State of Texas...As long as you didn’t incurr a moving violation you just claim that you haven't been operating the vehicle on a public roadway...which may be a stretch sometimes.
 
Just following the thought train. They used to send a bill, now they've stopped people aren't used to having to be responsible to remember their renewal dates.

Fair enough, I'm just a few years ahead of you. My point was, you were several months out of date. I was many years out of date. That takes a special level of ignorance (at which I excel, by the way) to buy a vehicle, never register or insure it, and wonder why one day the tags are from 2010 ????
