new Tach on 65 dart

i have a bit of a problem, am currently installing a tach with 4 wire red, white, black and green. i got the tree placed but i can get the white wire placed. i tried to connect it to the light switch but it just stayed turned on constantly even when the car was off but still with the battery connected.

Need a little helping hand :) thanks
 
If white is for illumination, tap a orange wire. Ash tray lamp? Radio lamp? Automatic shift bezel lamp? If you dont want it to brighten and dim with those other lamps... The red should be switched hot. Tap that.

Sincerely i dont have any room for extra attachment in my fuse box I need to directly attach the white wire to the headlight switch.

but I can’t tell witch wire I should connect the white tach wire to.

Most lights in tach's aren't that bright to begin with. I think I tapped mine into the instrument light fuse. If the headlights are on the tach is lit full bright. These fuse taps are handy. I think NAPA had them.

I suppose you could connect it to the tan wire but the tach lamp wouldn't be fused there.
