Inferno Red 74 Duster!

-
Well I finally made it to the track! But I had to fix a leaky valve cover gasket after work before I left. I think I'm finally leak free!
I found out a bad day at the track is still better than not being at the track! I managed a 15.4 which is way better than my best last year which was 15.7. On that run I spun off the line but the rest of the run went ok. I shifted early which hurt me too!
The next 3 passes were frustrating because my car decided to stumble off the line which it has never done before. It did hook good after dropping to 18lbs from 24 in the tires. Reaction times were okay even though I went red once. MPH got over 90 which was good so I just need to get rid of that stumble and see how it goes from there. Anyone who says drag racing is easy has never actually done it!

Well football practice is canceled (I coach) so I spent a few minutes prepping for test and tune tomorrow night. I upped the spring in my vacuum secondary 2 sizes in hopes of clearing up my stutter off the line. If that dont work I'm armed with a bunch of shooters of different sizes that I'm going to try. I am learning as I go trying to make this thing as good as it can be!

Man, I have not updated this in a while! With no racing going on I find myself working on the creature comforts. I just replaced my shitty muffler wannabe resonators with nice Flowmaster 40s. Oh man, the sound is like music to my ears. A quite a while back I replaced the cheap Summit mufflers that came with my exhaust kit because they were leaking around the crimped ends. My buddy convinced me that this pair of straight through resonators he had would be great replacements. Let's just say if I was 16 it would have been cool. So today, on went the Flowmaster 40s and all the pipes got welded up so there will be no more rattles. I'm sure my neighbors will love it too since I'm driving it to work most days now!

Wow, I have not sent an update since May of 2020! Let's see, where do I start?

I hit a deer a couple years ago and that resulted in a new hood, DS fender, grille and lots of paint touch ups. I had a great experience dealing with Hagerty insurance on this claim and the car is in way better shape than it was before the accident. While it was in the shop, I had a Go-wing and a correct factory dual snorkel scoop installed. I love both of those additions.

I spun a rod bearing on the 360 in my Duster in the spring of 2021, so I dragged an old stock 78 318 long block out of the corner of the shop and called it up to duty. I did put a cheap Summit cam and an Edelbrock Performer 318/360 intake on it first! It was actually way better than I expected, and it powered the car for probably 10,000kms before it just got played out. It was down to 100psi of compression and almost a full second slower in the ¼ mile.

So over this winter, I put together a stock bottom end 360 Magnum with a Comp XR274HR-10 cam, Speedmaster CNC ported aluminum heads and an Edelbrock Torker 2 intake. It will be topped with a Quickfuel 750 DP carb. It is currently on the run stand and sounds great. I am really looking forward to getting it in the car.

Other than that, I just recently replaced the door panels with new ones from Legendary, and a new Carpet from ACC. I will redo my console top to get rid of the ash tray hole and incorporate cup holders. Also I am finally getting to recovering the front seats. They now look terrible. They are filthy and the driver's side is ripped on the side bolster. I removed them to install the carpet and I'll do something with them before I reinstall them. The plan currently is to reupholster them myself but we will see how that goes. I want to have them match the rear seat as much as possible.

I started a YouTube channel a couple years back and I document a lot of what I do there. It is fun, and I have met lots of folks there too. I will try and keep this page better updated as i feel this is an important way of recording the history of this project. Even though the first several pages have the pictures messed up, I still like to go through it now and then to see how far it has come. Thanks for following along, and check out my YouTube sometime. The FABO experience has been so very important in the build of my car and other subsequent projects too!
