Ok guys my local drag strip is up and running and I plan on going to a test and tune night very soon. My question is what safety equipment will I be required to have in order to pass tech. I know that different ETs will require different equipment. I honestly don’t even know what kind of times my car will run. It feels very fast to me, but I have been getting a wide variety of opinions on what it will do ranging from 13.0-11.0. So here is a quick rundown of what I have
71 duster complete car down to the mat in the trunk
Balanced .030 360 block
Speed pro 116 pistons @ zero deck should make around 9.5 compression
Lunati .520/240@.050 hydrolic cam
Ported 2.02 j casting heads
Holley strip dominator intake
750 double pumper
Dougs headers I can’t remember the tube size
1968 A-833 4speed
And 4.56:1 suregrip with super stock springs and sub frame connectors

so what are your guesses on what kind of ET’s I am capable of and what safety equipment should I have in order to pass tech for such ET’s

thanks in advance for your input

Ever have the heads flowed?

Honestly it sounds like a mid 12s @105+
If it's an nhra sanctioned track. Then you'll need a snell2015 rated helmet for 13.99 or over 99mph
Once you hit 12s they usually look for metal valve stems. You'll need working neutral safety switch, seat belts, all your lug nuts and studs. If you're running slicks they'll start looking for driveshaft loop, but that is pretty random I've noticed. They never checked at my track.
Once you hit 11.49 to 10.00 you'll need the appropriate rollbar and harnesses... But I don't know if you'll be into that territory.

Thanks for your reply! To answer your question about the heads the answer is no, I don’t know a lot about them to be honest I bought them on eBay in 2003 and took them to my local speed shop for a valve job, port/bowl work, and to have them cut for bigger springs. From there I’ve never looked back. The engine is basically the same today as it was built in 2003, it got a new bottom end last winter along with a cam change. Mid 12’s is where I was thinking as well. But talk is cheap it’s time for me to produce a time slip to back it up lol.

I would say 12 to 12.50 1/4 8.0’s 1/8 if you can drive the 4 speed !! I see a lot of stick cars at the strip !! Few and far between can drive one !! Automatic car with a good stall probably high 11 1/4 mile ! Since you are wondering what the car is going to et !! Your probably a drag racer deep down ! You actually care what the car is going run !! I bet you can drive a stick car !!

I know how to drive it lol. I have owned this car since I was 15 years old and have raced it many times! Just not with this engine on a track

Awesome !! We have a lot stick cars here at my local track !! Omg !! 1 out of a 100 maybe if it’s that good lol !! Terrible !

Basing it on a weight of around 3400 all in? and 340-ish fwhp I too reckon 12.55's@107, as an example>
My '71 340 Cuda with around 9.5:1, stock 2.02 iron heads, a weight of around 3550lb with me, a DC .590" SFT cam, strip Dom intake, 850DP, 4.30's/4200stall, 1.75" race hdrs, 10x28 slicks and stock leafs w/snubber went a best of 12.40@108...=368fwhp.

Dang...we are neighbors. I’m out on the Wenas!

you’ve more than likely seen my car around then

Those are great street tires; great for sliding, for power-turns, and spinning to past the speed-limit anywhere in Manitoba, possibly anywhere in Canada. Super predictable when sliding around turns in second gear.
But I get 2.4plus 60fts out of them, lol, so terrible on the line.
At one time, my engine was similar to yours but with Edelbrock heads and at 3650 went 106, with a 223/230/110 cam@900ft elevation. The ET was 12.9;spinning most of the way.

Thanks! It has come a long ways in the last couple years, would I recognize your car?

I haven’t driven it much in the last couple of years. Top Banana 73 Dart Sport. Engine is out now. Trying to get it on the dyno in early August. It would be much easier if I could convince the shop in Selah with the dyno to run it, but I’ve been trying to get that to happen since 2008 and it ain’t happened yet.
