Damn Milodon. Check your oil pans

-
Any chance the Milodon pan with the issue is a counterfeit part. The PRI magazine recently had an article on that. Aftermarket and hot rod parts are plagued with that problem. That does not explain the lack of action by the Milodon person that you are working with.

if someone were to make counterfeit milodon pans, id expect them to be better then the origenals
(and yes, that is a jab at milidon)

I bought a Milodon pan about 5 years ago for a SBF. It fit fine, but the pickup tube wasn't even close to being correct. My engine builder had to rework it to make it work. I've had better luck with Moroso stuff for my 360's. My big block stuff I just buy the cheap 7 qt pans off ebay and they work fine. Hope they make it right as that pan wasn't even close to being made correctly.

The counterfeit problem is "supposed to be" mainly happening from unknown sellers like those on ebay. When you buy new name brand parts from bigger established companies like Summit Racing, you don't usually see the counterfeit parts because they use the correct supply chain. So in this case, I would say this is NOT a counterfeit problem.
The interesting part to me is still the fact the Milodon told him there have been no changes to this design, yet we have three different styles of baffles. I guess another small possibility is that someone assembling these at the factory mistakenly installed baffles from another pan design.

I always had the best luck modifying the factory pans than buying some cheap leaky thing.

The old pans fit like a glove. The new stuff...not so much.
I hope u right I just found these both within the last two weeks will have them cleaned the orange one looks like it was never used !!
I have to figure out which pickup set up is my best option .

A good designer or engineer always has a mock up and double checks the modifications before releasing it for production... It keeps these things from happening...
U can always tell when founders or original owners leave the picture because quality control suffers / I grew up and still work in same county in GA where Chic-fil-a
founder lived well since he passed away u can tell without a doubt that new people are driving the ship etc.

Last two BB Milodon pans I used had weeps right out of the side of the pan where the sump baffles were welded.
Milodon has said the pan rails are manufactured and stamped in china but they weld everything together here....with the qualty issues the last couple of years I wonder if they've moved even more of the process "overseas".

I forgot to mention is very easy to make that thing a dual pickup. I’m going to do mine that way. I didn’t do it when I it together the first time, but I’m going to do it this time.

Thank you for the info - I need to converse with you soon on the phone if possible thanks Chris

Milodon still owes me a pan...
5 years later I still have the same pile of crap with JB weld and the right stuff smeared all over one corner of it from brand new...
Of course I get the old everybody knows you have to notch your k-frame to make one of these fit after I notch my k frame to make it fit, I didn't know that...
I call miladon and said this oil pan leaks from one of your welds... The guy answers oh no not again!!??.. California guidelines won't let us check them with solvents anymore we have to check them with water.... Send us the oil pan back and we'll send you a new one with gaskets.... I said I just got done building my new Stroker motor and it's in my car...
Not happening!!... Will take your name and number and the next time you have the engine out or anything like that will send you a new one... I've had the engine out probably three times since then and I'll be damned if I'm un-sealing that pan...

I tried to call a little later yesterday and they must have quit early for the day. Hopefully he took five minutes to check my pictures before he skipped out early. Not impressed.

John, was it on the box where it was made?

In the house now but I will check. I just talked to Tom and he was shocked to see those pictures. He said to box it up and have Summit give me a new pan. I said no way as I’ve worked on it while waiting for you to checkout the pictures and it’s on the engine. I said the right thing to do would be to send me a free pan. He agreed and went on to say they are out of stock but to email him my address and he will send me one. Now go on Summits website and search 30940 and check out the video. You can stop it in any position and enlarge it. They did make changes to this pan. Check it out.

Summit revamped their website quite a bit too it seems. I noticed it shows a cutout for the pickup tube as well in their photos, and your pan came with no such cutout. Maybe it was one of those Friday a 4 p.m. pans? lol

300 bucks for a pan with a sticker. Those Milodon pans look like the pan, valve covers and air cleaner you could buy as a kit for 100 bucks or less in the 80's. lol
I'm happy you're getting it worked out.
I can't remember the last time I used an OOTB pan.

Hope it works out for you and he keeps his promise .
A while ago i posted about the milodon pickup tube that was rusty inside ( both of them) but it fell on deaf ears , so would be an idea to check that out aswell.

Ya it was a used pickup so it got a very good cleaning. It look fine. I usually leave old oil pans and pickups dirty, at least on the inside till they are put into use again. Gotta love that oily protection.

Wish we would have paid more attention to this post before buying the latest version for my sons 360 build. I’ve got one on my 410 and it is like the old version PR has shown above, I only had to bend over the metal cutout area a little for the pickup tube to clear. Otherwise no issues with the old version and all the welds are uniform, nicely fabricated. This new one mocked up hits the pickup tube and will require an even bigger notch to be cut out and then we can see if the rods hit the front baffle. But, we aren’t doing any of that. Not happy with some of the welds and general appearance of it, just sloppy. Doesn’t lay flat, it’s tweaked, and the rails ain’t flat on the ends, All that for $300...WTF! No thank you. It’s getting sent back for a refund. We’ll have to look at Kevco or Canton instead.
