Ron Francis fuse panel location?

Hey gang,

I'm installing a Ron Francis wiring harness, part number XP-777. Today was nice so I was able to remove the old under dash harness without destroying anything. And holy cats it was just a fire waiting to happen. I'm glad I made the decision to replace the harness.

For those of you who have done this, where did you install the fuse panel? My car is a '65 Barracuda and I'm not 100% sure where the ideal location would be. Hopefully somebody has some stylish input.

When i had the express i put the panel on a hinge and mounted it on the firewall. Basically behing the radio. When i needed to work on it i would hinge it down.

With the access 24-7 i mounted it on the passenger side just above the kick panel.
 
I mounted it driver’s side just above the kickpanel in my 64 dart. I removed the fresh air duct there and blocked it off with a gasket and some sheet metal. I plan on adding A/C so removing the fresh air duct I never use was a simple decision.

Hmm. But if I remove the duct, how else will I blast myself with dried leaves and muck on hot summer days?

There is enough room to mount the panel way up above the summer door on the left kick panel, but access is awful and awkward.

A/C sounds great!

Hmm. I'll see if I have enough room behind the radio, but I think your car has more room than mine. I'll have another look.

on the firewall opposite the radio was the second location I considered. Pretty easy to access.
I definitely don’t like blasting myself with schmutz so I was happy to get rid of the fresh air duct.

After fussing around trying to find the ideal location in terms of accessibility, safety, and easy of installation I finally came up with this idea: place the fuse panel into a weatherproof box and and install it in the engine bay on top of the passenger fender near the firewall.

There just isn't enough room under or behind the radio. I thought for a while about mounting it under the driver seat. But the engine bay seams ideal in terms of ease of access and proximity to the battery, engine block ground, and alternator.

I ordered these two boxes:

I'll choose whichever is better and go from there. Once I have it situated I'll post some photos.

Sounds like a great idea to me. A lot of the newer cars and trucks have them under the hood. Show us what it looks like when you're done. Steve
