Since I have my column out and had to destroy the factory coupler in the process. Gotta love corrosion. What are my options for a steering coupler? I have a 72 Demon BB with manual steering. The factory coupler was slightly rubbing on my TTI headers. So I would like to find another option if possible. I have read through a lot of posts and seems to mainly be guys converting power to manual boxes and keeping the power column. Idk enough here to know if the columns are the same or not.

Flaming River makes a u-joint coupler, that might give you a little more clearance.

I have Gerst front suspension, but I believe that you could use the same coupler, Flaming River.

Here is a Flaming River coupler on a stock manual steering setup. Note that it requires cutting the column and drilling a hole. But you can see that it is pretty slim, and it doesn't have rubber that would be affected by header heat.

Thanks. Do you have a part number? I am not seeing that on their site. Is it a fair amount that needs to be cut off? sound like it is pretty straight forward to install.

Manual and power columns were about 1.5 inches difference due to the shorter manual box. If your going from power to manual, you need a longer shaft or a power to manual converter (unbelievably expensive chunk of splined metal) or a Borgeson u-joint.

I don't believe that it would be deal to convert to the Flaming River. Call them next week and tell them what you would like to do. I am sure that they can fix you up.

I have a manual shaft and coupler I’d part with.

The distance is closer to 2.5”. For reliability, I’d stick with the factory designed coupling.
