I have a set of X Heads that have been worked over on my 340 4 speed Dart. Any advice on trying to run this roller cam with them on the street. I will change springs etc. Have 1.5 Hughes roller rockers. Would buy complete kit.

Lunati 40200730K: (Solid Roller)
Lift .555/.566
Duration 231/237
Lash 016"/.016"
"Good high performance street cam with good mid range torque and HP. Works
well in 318-360 c.i. motors. Needs 2500
RPM stall converter or 4-speed trans-
mission, header, 9:1+ compression ratio
and 3.55+ gearing. Lopey idle."
Thanks FABO

I think a little more engine/car combo information would help to decide, like rear gear, tire height, compression, induction, exhaust, etc. And what is "worked over" on the heads? Gasket match, decent porting? I'm not trying to be smart, just genuinely trying to help out.

There is not much info to go on , a mostly basic 340 will be fine with this cam with headers and a 750 and some head work would be an added bonus. I'm not sure what your induction set up is. Your usually fine with these small rollers (similar to Comps 288 street roller) but I would still get some checker springs and do a piston to valve check and push rod length check , good luck.

Also, not trying to be a smarty pants....but, why bother with a solid roller on an engine with production heads that can't take advantage of the extra flow? A solid flat tappet cam will save you a TON of money, and will run about the same. For what its worth, my current engine as a solid flat tappet in it....and its not down on power at all (see times in sig).

Heàds had mild port and flow 260 intake at 500 and 165 exhaust at 500. 1 5/8 full headers 2 1/2 exhaust. 3.55 gears, rpm airgap with Holley 750 but not DP. Mallory all in one dusty, 9.8 compression, tires 25.7 tall. I have the pushrod checker ànd can check clearance when the heads come off. I have a solid lunatic now but to much durAtion for street. 249 @ 050. Was thinking the faster ramp rates might more power than a solid. Also 1.5 Hughes rockers. I'm looking for more low to midrange power. 2200 up to 6 or 6.5k. thanks for all the comments. Anything welcome. I'm an old man now 67 but I still wrench and want to have fun.

if those heads go 260 at half an inch, somebody has gotten after them extensively

You'll need to clearance the push rod holes in the heads, hour glass them mainky towards the lifter up top and toward the cyl on the bottom.

That 249@050 is a large cam for the street and the low numeric gear set.
Do you have the solid roller now?

No roller yet. Will change gears for cam used. The Lunati is a 1980s cam I bought way back. It was only used to get everything running and broke in then change to more friendly profile. It has nothing going for it below 3K.

What are your goals for the car? My X’s flow about 280 and I’m running solid flat tappet. A solid roller for me would be a definite improvement. With a stock casting it is not easy to go really big gross valve lift. Much easier to snap the valve open to useable lift quicker. That’s why rollers are attractive for someone chasing the last HP.

I’m making a similar adjustment to my 340 that is 30 over, 10.2-1, will be dropping on 271 at .500 ported Eddy rpm heads with 2.05 valves and AG intake that @yellow rose did back in January. 4 speed with GVOD and choice of between 3.91 to 3.55. The cam we picked is a solid FT 234/234 @.50 107+2. Like you my current cam is not a great pick for the street and does not have low end grunt that was wanted.
