My car sits unused for a couple weeks at a time. Is a Disconnect Switch a good idea? It's not for a race car. If you have or had one, is it a good idea?

I have them on both of my cars.No racing just street cars.Put one on my Motorhome too.
When buying make sure the switch amperage is greater than the alternator output amps.

trickle charger works well too. not as cheep, but no wiring either. i've been using this BatteryMINDer one for a few months on one car.
i do put disconnects in my mopars. makes it easy to kill all the electrical when working on the car

If not a race car, you can put the kill switch on the ground side. Could also just pull the ground battery cable and not worry about it...

What do you have in the system that's draining the battery?

Very simple fix is to use a welding cable quick connect/camlock on the battery ground wire. They are cheap, simple to install, and add the nice functionality of quick and simple batt disconnect when working on your ride. I've had one on one of my cars for many years - they work very well. Just as a matter of habit, I always disconnect the battery on these old cars!

I put one on my car so I can have a better chance it will be were I left it when I get back. Hid it and use a fob to trigger it when I am walking away.

Nothing is perfect but it makes me feel better.

I use it when I park the car, too. Figure I got it why not use it.

No need for a disconnect switch.
i agree. except for the valiant i have now, where it's a real kill switch, it just makes for a convenient way to disconnect the battery instead of pulling the clamp off
