Well my insurance is due on Sept 19 for my 69 Dart and 68 Barracuda. Now I’ve had them insured with Hagerty for years now. I can’t really say weather they are good or bad as I haven’t had a claim. I’m bitching cause every year they go up. This year it is 725.00 for both. Is that fair or can you recommend a better company?

I switched to American Collectors for just that reason!
It seemed like every year the cost went up and the restrictions were tightened.
Switched to American Collectors and not only do they insure my cars, I got a policy on some of my collectables as well. I pay 1/2 of what Hagerty wanted and that includes my collectables.

Just kicked off a policy with American Collectors.
I'm happy with the coverage levels. I ended up with them based upon my USAA affiliation and a mild discount (5%)
They are very specific on the exclusivity of vehicle use. Shows and club events...so not for your daily driver.
I went with the 5,000 mile policy to start. My brother has a 67 convertible up in New England and I'll probably road trip up there a couple times a year to cruise and hang out.

Give JC Taylor a try. I've had them for years. Never had a claim but my friend did and they were great about it.

Regardless of choice, just be sure to read the fine print and any addendum to ensure it meets your driving profile.

I will thanks. To tell you the truth I very seldom drive them at all. In maybe 17 years I’ve drove the Dart 1590 miles total. I love owning them but I’d rather take my new truck when I go anywhere.

Just insured my '64 Rambler today. 58 bucks for 6 months. Liability, Comprehensive, and towing.
  • multi car discount
  • house ins discount
  • under 7500 miles a year discount
  • accident free discount

I switched from Haggerty to Grundy about 8 years ago. Every year Haggerty went up and up. When I switched to Grundy, it went down by $100 a year. Plus, at the time, Haggerty had a lot of restrictions. You could not drive the car to work (not even just a few times a year on nice days), you could not leave it unattended in a restaurant or store parking lot and be covered, etc. When I switched, Grundy said, "We want you to enjoy your car. Drive it to work every once in a while (it just can't be primary transportation), take it to a store or restaurant; you are covered." I have been very happy with them.

State Farm
May I respectfully suggest you check your coverage. Do you have an agreed value policy with them, or could they possibly pull out a book and say, for example, the book value on a 69 340S Barracuda is $7,500, here is your check. I would be careful with a company that did not specialize in Classics.

Mine is ensured with farmers

Over the past 6 years they have put a new roof on my house and a new floor in my house

Both of which were well over what the duster is worth
(My point is, they did right by me with the big stuff, im not gonna sweat the little stuff)

They offer a choice to insure it as a classic. A guy just needs antique plates, which I have, and an appraisal. I choose not to. It's not a 440 6 pack RR. It's a 4 door Rambler, maybe a 4k car.

I have had two claims with State Farm (in 30 years) on my collector car policy. They paid up to the stated value without complaint and covered hidden damage that was not a part of the original State Farm estimate. I always used a specialty shop that only worked on collector cars of various types. I chose the shop with no back pressure. My rates never went up as a result of a claim (although one claim was paid out by the insurance for the person that hit me). Like 318willrun, I have my homeowners policy and 6 cars total with them. They also were good about increasing stated value periodically when requested.

I know I am insured with the cheapest possible mercury liability.
Being 16, there is no way in hell the classic car insurance companies would even consider me.
(damn double standards) So I am paying 68$ every six months for one car. with the student discount, and since my parents also have multiple policies, that is another discount. Without those discounts, I would be paying around 125 for every six months.

Hagerty is good with claims. And we have had a total loss with them.

But they are the market leader and sit on their high horse. They have steadily raised their rates. Time to shop around.

I just did an online quote with American Collectors insurance and the quote is comparable to what I currently pay with Hagerty.
