i have scat blast cabinet that i bought in 1994. needs some upgrades i think. looked at you tube on the hf upgrade and tried talked to tacoma co owner. they moved from washington state to utah and can not get an answer on either number. i found another place that is called partswasherupgrade.com and saw some of their videos on you tube also. the price difference is "wow". tacoma is about 700.00 by the time you get their upgrades and the other company is under 300.00. anyone have any other companies they have had good luck with? both kits remove the suction tube and have a pipe in the trap door, along with other mods. tia. rick w.

I bought this one recently awesome piece of equipment. Was going to also do all the upgrades to a cheap HF but figure to get parts to upgrade plus i wanted a larger cabinet ill just spent the money. I have cleaned k members leaf springs with the lower spring sticking out into a made catch on the side. I did add magnetic LED lights. Also added a larger air hose 24" x 48" Blast Cabinet at Grizzly.com

I upgraded mine with this guy's tips. I used an old cake pan for the baffle and I decided against a foot pedal, having installed a better nozzle some years before.

This guy does it pretty cheap, although I don't know if his links are still going to be good.

I watched this incredibly boring video too and at about ten minutes in, used his method to drop the floor.

he uses the same stuff from tacoma company that rays garage did. i looked at that one also.

I did mine with parts from the hardware store. Super cheap!. It makes a world of difference as to how they work. I'll take some pictures or a video tomorrow.

Sweet! I like " Reverse Engineering " parts I can make.... Harley Head wrenches, mopar UCA tool, even grinding a socket or wrench down, all kinda stuff...

I need to do some of these mods to my cab as well.

X2 on the TP Tools gun upgrade kit. Invest in carbide nozzles if you blast a lot -- they'll pay for themselves almost immediately.

Maybe I am dense, but I do not understand your question. I also have an older Scat Blast cabinet (about
16-17 years old). It is the 960 model. Last year I bought a new vacuum, all new gaskets and some new parts for the inside. Over the years I had blown some holes in a few braces and the floor. So first, what model do you have? I cannot recommend upgrades if I don't know what you have. Second, I do not understand what you mean by 'upgrade'. That can mean so many things. So it is pretty tough to make any suggestions. Exactly what do you want to change and/or upgrade? It might be easier to just sell yours for a few hundred dollars and buy a new Scat Blast cabinet.

Aint that the truth. I can use a carbide tip for two years.

i bought it in 1994 from the cornwell tool man. i have been thru 2 vacuum motors, 3 guns, numerous nozzles. it appears that is the same as the 960 on tp tools web site. 28 in deep, 46 in long, door on rt side. i have tried using low pressure(30-45), high pressure(60-75) low media level, med and high media level. i added a 2nd light on the rt side. upgraded the supply line to 3/8 id, 2 dryers( 1 at the compressor and another at the cabinet.) back in 1994 the cabinet was 1300.00 now it is 1800.00 on tp tools plus shipping. the cabinet is in great shape. i moved the vacuum cleaner hole to a different area of the cabinet. i have looked at the tacoma co/harbor freight mods as well as other ones on you tube. i think that removing the siphon tube and adding the mixer valve into the drain box will help. i am trying to decide between the tacoma co kit( approx 800.00) or the partswaherupgradekit (approx 325.00)

What actual problem are you having.

I have the $250 HF cabinet with a fairly cheap gun upgrade only.

The only "problem" I ever have is a clogging of the feed line which I fix by pulling the gun off, and firing it back down the tube.

What CFM compressor are you using?

My tip is metal and showing wear bit it's been on there for years.

Sifted playgroud sand @ 95 PSI

@YY1, sifted playground sand is a VERY soft media. I assume it's the crap from Tractor Supply? Try a bag of black fine slag some time, or aluminum oxide, and your time at the cabinet can be cut in half or better. Cheap media is all fine and good but it's got to work to be efficient.

When my feed tube stops up, I hold the tip against my other hand and mash the pedal. It forces the air back down the tube and clears the feed tube out. That may not work if you have a gun with the trigger on the gun instead of a foot pedal.

Same here, but when you find yourself fighting a block every few seconds, it's time to find the culprit. Most often it's a bigger chunk of media or hardware that slipped through the grate into the hopper. A piece or two of screen stapled to a wooden "window" makes a great cheap sifter.

bought "the ultimate kit" from partswasherupgradekit. tried to post photos of my blaster and different kits that i found since sunday. my samsung phone update screwed my ability to send and update pics to my home computer. being an old guy, i know nothing about phone tech, so i took it to at place i bought the phone. they said that samsung is having problems with the latest update and have not figured how to fix it yet. so i bought a new phone. won't be here til next week. hopefully problem will be solved. the kit i bought puts a fitting in lower dump lid of blaster and then thru the cabinet to gun. has some other parts to add to cabinet help the dust collection and overall performance of cabinet. kit operates on 40-65 psi.

So, @rbkt65

What, exactly problems are you having?

There has been a wealth of info posted, but none can address your specific problem, if you don't post that problem.

Like I posted, I get GREAT results from a cheap HF cabinet and a cheap tractor supply gun with cheap blast media.

...but I have a 32 CFM compressor.

that is just the name of the site. i did some research and these are 3 retired guys that want to keep busy. they had the same concerns that a lot of people do with the siphon type blaster cabinet. won't siphon, plugs up, having to blow back through the system to get it to work. same problems i have. i wanted to see what was out there and after i found the tacoma company, i figured there might be something else out there at a better price. i think i found it. it beats buying another blast cabinet. if i can make a few improvements(still remains to be seen) and it works a lot better, i will feel the money is well spent. on another note, i have an old greyco parts washer that i will probably upgrade with parts from them also.
