While in Switzerland my friend gave me a pair of brand new Formula S emblems. that he’s had for a long time for his Swiss-assembled Barracuda They are unused with part number 257 9443. and come with what appears to be original PAL nuts. Yes, the pins are vertical not horizontal. My question is: would these be NOS or repros if it’s even possible to tell from the pics?

Yea
From the pictures the last one shows rust coloring?

There is no “rust coloring” on either one.

Do the pin show threads that means the may have been mounted?
I'll buy them if for sale, just saying.

On the farthest one the PAL nuts have been barely started; on the closest one nut has been started with nothing on the other stud and no evidence of any threads there were a pair of nuts in the bag - an extra? Upon close inspection I found the dcpd emblem on both, kind of leads me to think these may be NOS

I was talking to Layson’s about the 65/66 Dart GT emblem that goes on the upper door and happened to get Rick@Laysons. He happened to see this post so we discussed it a bit. He said they have a record of where every emblem is shipped to and none of the Formula S emblems have ever been shipped to Switzerland and it just might be NOS. I thought it was interesting that he shared this particular bit of info

Think these are 1966-68 emblems, 1965 had the studs in the back on the sides of the “S” and 66-up had them on the top and bottom.

bit this appear to be NOS, they have the correct finish, repop ones are more shiney looking on the circle part, nice score!

Thanks! I understand the part number - 257 9443 is for the 65 or am I mistaken?

The Chrysler part# for the '65 Formula S emblem is 2579442. The studs are horizontal when installed.

The part# for the '66-'68 "S" emblem is 2579443.

I am mistaken! Thanks Rick and 66340sedan - these are for the 66-68!

EDIT: I shall edit this post where needed

Since several member feel these 66-68 S emblems are NOS, my next question is what are they realistically worth. I told Robert I would try to sell them and send him the money. BTW he is an inactive member since he sold his Barracuda.

Ebay has repop ones for $140 a pair and they are not as nice...you can see the lines are not as crisp, studs have threads already, brushed part is too shiny and the paint is also too shiny and does not have a “flat” finish like the originals...not sure why they go through all the trouble to make them and they can’t make them right :(

There is a NOS pair currently listed on eBay for $190, and a single NOS one for $100.....if those you have are mint NOS ones I’d ask $200 for the pair.

Here are the cheap repop ones in the pictures below

The real badges have a brushed finish on the silver border. You could possibly put these on a drill and hit them with some sandpaper to create a brushed finish. I got a set off my barn find 65 I'll post pics of when I get home.

I have a set of NOS (still in the un-opened plastic Mopar bag's) FORMULA S emblems and also a new set of the re-pop FORMULA S emblems. The only thing that I can tell differently about the two is that the S on the NOS ones has a brushed look to them and the S on the re-pops almost looks like chrome, very shinny, highly polished and no brushed look at all and I can tell the difference in the S even looking through the plastic bags. The outside border on both sets have the brushed look and the backs look exactly the same with the part numbers and all the other letters on them. One more thing, the NOS emblem studs line up with the factory holes in the front fenders perfectly, the re-pop's do not fit perfectly they are very snug and will require some tweaking to fit.

The pins are vertical and they are round and yes 443's and Steve I do not see a pentastar logo anywhere on them. One other thing I noticed while looking for the pentastar logo is that the numbers and letters on the back of the NOS ones are a lot more defined than the re-pop's and the back of the re-pop's are a lot more shinier that the NOS ones.

Do you have a picture of the NOS emblem? I’ve never seen one where the “S” has a brushed finish...all I’ve seen are chrome

I looked back at his pictures but i can't tell from them.
Is that a sign that should be there?
What about the other letters and numbers that is on them?

Even the other numbers and letters are on the re-pop's just not as defined as the NOS ones, and Steve there is no Pentastar logo's on any of them even the old original Formula S emblems that I took off of my 68 do not have Pentastar logo's on them. Also I moved the NOS ones around in the bags to get a better look at the S and they are shiny and do look like chrome not brushed, it was just the old plastic that made them look that way. Look at 65 Dartman's 2nd picture and look at how defined the numbers are, the re-pop's are not as clear.

You've already mentioned yours have no pentastars, I'm asking @65 Dartman about his. I'm guessing, but I would think there would be pentastars on them? I've seen other emblems that have the pentastar.

Thanks, I'm trying to learn about them also.
I have a 65 with a need for horizontal pins.
