Purchased Nov 2023 with the help of my amazing wife! She actually promised to buy me a 2nd gen Barracuda in her wedding vows!

What a great looking car!!! DO you happen to know the color code? I think Chrysler called it Chanpagne BUT Dodge and Plymouth had other names for it. I think the paint code is CC1. I will post our 68 on here later today.

Pulled rear bottom seat today. No luck on build sheet, best I can tell no evidence one was ever under there. I did find a black coated aluminum tag hog ringed to the seat spring. Reads 2767113 7-5- ?? (67 maybe). Felt around the back topside of the glovebox with no luck. Maybe I'll get lucky under the carpet!

Oh the fun of drum brakes.. all 4 corners no self adjusters. Spring just forced over the Star wheel. Not sure this is "factory" correct but for now it goes back together the way it was! Oh and the new rear drum brakes are drill way bigger than the lug studs.. decide to turn the old ones and re use them.

Oh looks amazing shiny and new like that!! I just picked up a set of mag slots like those, they look good with your fresh paint!
 
Got some nicer grease caps on today.thank you Dana67dart for the caps! Went digging in my pipe of pvc fittings per your suggestion and found that the threaded end of a 1" compression fitting is the perfect tool for the job!
Got the proper brake hardware and spare front drums from 4fortyDemon as well!

Noticed my greasy fingerprints make the cap look dented in prior picture. Shiny grease caps are tough to photograph! I assure you they are scratch and ding free- looks so much better than what I had!

If your wife bought you a 2nd Gen Barracuda you'd better plan on doing something pretty special for her.....
 
...almost got the
Brakes buttoned up, THEN the rear softline/ Y junction went full artery block! Got a new soft line and cleared the hardlines. Hopefully get it back together tomorrow. New front and now rear soft lines, new wheel cylinders and shoes all around. New Master cylinder and rebuilt power booster

Sometimes the self adjusters were removed for heavy duty use.

Carefully note the direction of the adjuster.
Direction for tightening reverses starting with 1969 model year.

I see tabbed shoes. That is correct for 1968 for builds starting March 1.

These are new replacement 288 shoes for rear 10" drums. March 1968 through the end of the Model Year

If you install self-adjusters, then you must use the matching adjuster, up to '69, or pre-69.

Note the shoes in the last photo are slightly different to accomodate the new hardware. (331)
The '68 shoe frames are pretty rare. Most end up with '67 (non-tabbed) or Ford versions unless you save the old and get
'em relined. Not a big deal but a nice little detail. Usually the shoe frame number is stamped somewhere into the metal.
 
Thank you Mattax for the explanation, photos and reference links! I need to study the pictures more and read up to understand the "tab" reference, might just be my tired eyes not catching on atm. I really appreciate the time you put in to help me better understand the brake situation!
 
See the where the arrow is pointing on the 256 shoe; on the 288 frame it becomes a flat tab. Slides better against the backing plate.

Its in the what's new for '68 MTSC

 
Coffee.. all I needed was coffee (and this added illustration!) For some reason I kept looking at the "spine" of the shoe with the hole cut outs trying to decifer what spot was the tab vs non tab . Now it's so clear! Totally get the edge of the shoe and how mine has the formed over tab to increase contact with backing plate. I've been searching on the Hamtramck registry site as well, very good information, thank you!
 
The hunt for the build sheet continues, no luck under drivers side carpet... but I did find the ultra rare P.O. installed security system?!?
