Wife was at the dentist so I took a trip to the local hobby shop that sells new and older stuff on commission. Looked up and down the aisles with nothing catching my eye. Went thru an area in the opposite direction and saw some packaged stock cars at ankle level. Barely peeking out behind one of the and a box sitting on the floor was the Maverick. Bingo bango! Can't wait to open the package and do a day two thing with skinny front tires and wider tires for the hind end. Any idea when these were made?

Mom had a 74 Maverick 4 door, she called it "**** brindle brown", but it was actually a very reliable car, just ugly. Had the 250 cube six and automatic, only options were power steering and rear defogger. I got my drivers license in that car, mom owned a driving instruction school and used it for training, had dual controls in it.
Buddy in high school had a 71 Maverick 2 door that his dad gave him when he got his driver's license. We pulled the 200 cube six banger and he picked up a pretty hot 302 and dropped it in. A few months after it was on the road he slammed it into a tree on a rainy Sunday afternoon. He and his girlfriend were lucky to walk away after.
 
There was one for sale locally a couple years back with a 408 windsor, that would be pretty cool.
I know of a Comet in town with a 351/5 speed as well.
 
Had one while stationed in Guam... Typical "Guam Bomb" Took it on a few jungle adventures... Didn't do jumps real well.... :lol:

I know the color. My aunt gave me her '72, 2 door Maverick when I was in High School, and my friends called it "The Turd", not only because of it's overall appearance, but also due to it's color.

One of my best Highway Patrol/Speeding Ticket stories involves that car, now that I think about it.

(The stupid **** we did back then!)
 
Years ago a lady who worked for me came in on a Monday morning all excited saying she and her new husband bought a "4-door Mustang" from the local Ford dealership over the weekend. I tried and tried to explain to her that their new purchase could not be a Mustang since it was a 4-door.
Turned out it was a Maverick.
 
Wasn't a Ford fan when I was younger, but many of them (except Mustangs) are starting to grow on me. There are a few awesome Mavericks here in metro-Detroit.

...and kind of back burner looking for a 4 door to put one of those hoods on and make a "poor man's" Mad Max MFP car.
 
Our first family car was a 74 4 door maverick with 200 straight six. They really are cool looking cars (for a ford).

Gapp & Roush "Tijuana Taxi" more-door Maverick Pro Stock!
They went with the 4-door because of the slightly longer wheelbase.

I agree those little Mavericks were pretty cool little cars for the day. Add any V8 and fun. They aren't cheap now days either.
There re still afford project cars out there, just not hemi Cudas!!! :BangHead: :poke:

Just googled- about 300 maverick aftermarket wagon conversions were made in Brazil, in 1978/79.
 
I thought they were factory jobs! If memory serves me correctly, the roof reminded me of a late 60's-early 70's Fairlane.
 
Senior year of HS ('73) one guy had a Comet Stabber that was a package car put together by a local Lincoln-Mercury dealer in '71 and '72, IIRC. Good looking car in black with silver stripes. His buddy had a Maverick Grabber in blue with silver stripes.
