2026 Inaugural Potomac Nationals qualifying leaders:

Q1
Weather: 74F, 41% relative humidity, barometer 29.99", adjusted altitude 1,360', track temp. n/a
TF: Doug Kallita, 3.817; Maddie Gordon @ 330.39

There was a notice posted earlier today on nhra.com that Matt Smith was admitted to the hospital following arrival in Maryland and is currently being treated for gallstones. He will not be riding this weekend. Chip Ellis is riding Matt's bike and will be accumulating points for Matt Smith. Matt will continue tuning all of the team bikes, from his hospital bed if necessary or back at the track if he is discharged.

@Budnicks, @cuda20, @johnnycuda, @MeMikieJr, @Outlawd and @Yunick13, you will continue to accumulate game points for both qualifying and elimination rounds based on Chip Ellis' results if you continue with your original Pro Stock Motorcycle class pick of Matt Smith.

You may change your Pro Stock Motorcycle class pick to another rider before the start of Q3 but your new pick will not be eligible for qualifying bonus points.

Congratulations to 'TT5.9mag' (FABO), second consecutive time, for winning the NHRA "Pick 'Em" game Top Qualifier title for the seventh event of the 2026 season, the inaugural NHRA Potomac Nationals presented by JEGS in Mechanicsville, MD, with an outstanding score of 29.5 qualifying bonus points. He picked the #1 qualifier in Funny Car, the #2 qualifiers in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle and the #4 qualifier in Pro Stock.
'memike' (FABO), 'ocdart' (FABO) and 'Yunick13' share the qualifying runner-up honors with 28.0 bonus points each.
'Budnicks' has the highest FBBO qualifier score with 27.5 bonus points.

More great picks!

We have 16 players again this week and 15 different driver combos made up of:
* 6 different Top Fuel drivers with a possibility of two head-to-head matchups in Round 2 if all drivers survive.
* 6 different Funny Car drivers with a two Round 1 head-to-head matchups. One between #6 qualifier Matt Hagan (4 picks) and #11 qualifier Austin Prock (2 picks), and the other between #7 qualifier Alexis DeJoria (1 pick) and #10 qualifier Ron Capps (5 picks). The next possibility of head-to head matchups in Funny Car would be the semi-finals.
* 6 different Pro Stock drivers one Round 1 head-to-head matchup between #8 qualifier Jeg Coughlin Jr. (1 pick) and #9 qualifier Erica Enders (2 picks). There is also the possibility of one Round 2 head-to-head matchup if both drivers survive.
* 4 different Pro Stock Motorcycle drivers. The earliest possibility of a head-to-head matchup is Round 2 of eliminations.

Good luck all!

He correctly picked the class winners in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock. His Pro Stock Motorcycle pick broke in the first round of eliminations.
'TT5.9mag' (FABO) was right behind in the runner-up spot with 154.5 points. Way to go!

Here's where the bonus points were earned if you picked the right drivers:

16 - Top Fuel (1 driver will make their 2026 debut)
16 - Funny Car
16 - Pro Stock

Pro Stock Motorcycle will not compete at this event.

Matt Smith was at the track yesterday. During the television broadcast he said his hospitalization during the Potomac Nationals was due to a combination of gall stones, kidney stones, an inflamed pancreas, and two hernias. He also announced he will be skipping a few events to take care of his medical issues and currently plans to return for the U.S. Nationals. He didn't say for certain but I assume Chip Ellis will be on Matt's bike for the next few events as a medical replacement to accumulate points for Matt.

As always, please check to verify your picks are participating before posting your picks.
GOOD LUCK!

And my drop to the bottom continues . My locked picks did me no good and I couldn't have changed them if I wanted . Just got out of the Hospital after Round 2 of Covid . Now time to get serious and try to claw myself back up a little .

Here's your day-late Tuesday before the race notice for the middle event of the so-called "Eastern Swing", the eighth event of the 2026 NHRA season, the 13th annual NHRA New England Nationals presented by bproauto at New England Dragway
Please post your picks before Professional qualifying starts so you will be eligible for all event bonus points. The first of the scheduled four rounds of Pro qualifying is scheduled to start at 5:00pm EDT (2:30pm PDT) on Friday.

nhra.com shows the following entry counts for the professional categories:
16 Top Fuel (Rit Pustari will be making his first runs of the 2026 NHRA season)
16 Funny Car (Phil Burkart will be seen driving for the first time this season)
16 Pro Stock (Brandon Miller will have his Mopar on the strip again)

Pro Stock Motorcycle will not compete at this event.

The current weather forecast shows great stuff for the weekend:
* Friday should be mostly sunny and mid-80s when Q1 Pro qualifying starts at 5:00pm local time, cooling off to the mid-70s when Q2 starts at 7:30pm local time.
* Saturday shows partly sunny to mostly cloudy and mid-80s when the Mission Foods 2Fast2Tasty Challenge races start Q3 at 12:30pm local time, and mid-70s for the Mission Foods 2Fast2Tasty Challenge finals and Q4 at 3:00pm. The current forecast also shows a 36-45% chance of rain for a couple of hours on Saturday evening starting around 6:00pm.
* The Sunday forecast is for mid-60s and up to a 60% chance of rain from the morning up to about 4:00pm. Final eliminations may be on Monday. We will just have to wait and see and hope the forecast improves.
* If eliminations roll over to Monday, the forecast is for sunny all day with a temp of about 70F at 11:00am and a high of 77F about 2:00pm.

The combination of low temps for final eliminations and the relatively low altitude should result in some outstanding conditions for racing.

The current television schedule for the New England Nationals...
* Qualifying Show 1: 8:00-9:30pm EDT (5:00-6:30pm PDT), Friday, June 5 on FS1
* Qualifying Show 2: 10:00-11:00pm EDT (7:00-8:00pm PDT), Saturday, June 6 on FS1
* Final eliminations: 3:00-6:00pm EDT (Noon-3:00pm PDT), Sunday, June 7 on FOX

All television coverage will also re-air at later times. Check www.nhra.com.

Don't miss out!
