Sounds like you have a long tailshaft 4-speed.

Here's a long tailshaft A-833 (B/C/E/Truck/Van):

Here's a short (A/F body) tailshaft A-833:

thanx for the pics my trany (thanx to brewers iding) is a long shaft 18 spline from a 1969 b body so OH WELL il keep looking for the one i need

You can use the long tail shaft tranny in an A-body, I have one in my 68 Barracuda. You will need to use the rear shifter mount and fabricate a mounting plate that mounts there and positions the shifter forward to the stock location. BIGBLOCKDART.com has a drawing of what the mounting plate needs to look like. You will also need to have the drive shaft shortened and whether you find an A-body A833 or not will need to change the slip yoke on the front of the drive shaft to fit the larger output shaft on the tranny.

The 3pd bell housing likely does not have the 4spd bolt pattern on it so you will need a different bell housing.

FWIW, if you have an 18 spline A833 tranny you can likely sell that for enough to by several 23 spline units. Those only came behind 440 and 426 powered cars and are highly sought after.

You'll never be able to use it unless you're planning on also putting a hemi or 440/6 motor in front of it to mate the 18-slpine input.

my 440 A body 4spd is a 23 spline input with the large bearing retainer(not the od retainer) It is the large 727 output shaft. As far as I have seen only Hemis came with the 18 spine input shaft. That 18 spine is worth a lot. I would salt it away and buy the proper one, unless there is no chance you will ever do a b/e. All of the aluminum bell housings I have seen have the dual pattern, I haven't seen a steel bell housing for a long time.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread but is this tranny for a B body only?

Picked it up a while back....thought I might put it in the '67 Cuda but
I elected to go with the 727

I don't know if this helps, but I've attached pictures of a 4-spd tranny and components from a 65 Dart GT. They are for sale if you are interested.

Good luck with your project.

There's a raised pad on the pass. side of the main case with some stamped letters and numbers- what does it say?

As mentioned, an 18-spline A-833 is worth big bucks.

Get an A/F-body A-833 for you car.

BTW, not all A/F-body A-833s use the same size output shaft and yoke. Mine uses the small (904) size, but I know others have said theirs use the large (727) size.

Yeah, if you have a '65, you may need an A-833 with the ball and trunion rear yoke, as pictured. These are a little bit cheaper to buy compared to later ('66+?) non ball and trunion A-833s, but should be the right choice for a '65.

It will fit behind any engine as long as you get an 18 spline clutch disk and the through out bearing that fits the larger sleeve used with the 18-spline input shaft.

It has a 4.80" diameter front carrier...the tail shaft is about
16-1/2" long....the stamped pad is as follows pp833 9G266504

Below that is cast H4 C99129

On the pass. side of tail shaft is cast 1 G-99127

Had this pic posted on another thread quite a while ago. Some of the
guys said it could be for a B body based on the shifter location. Never
found out for sure. Don't know if it would fit an A body or not.

The 9G266504 is a partial VIN number. 9 = '69, G = Car was built at the St. Louis plant, and 266504 is the sequence number

16-1/2" long tail shaft is a B/E/Turck/Van tailshaft length, so it's a '69 B-body trans.

A-body tail shafts are approx. 12" long.

You might want to try listing it over on the Moparts forum in the lost and found section- someone may be looking for their car's original 4-speed.

How much for all of the stuff in the picture?I have a lot of stuff for trading,In florida towingby27@yahoo.com

Hi Waggin, ran across your post and just had to comment on your creation. I always wondered what a nomad style dodge dart wagon would look like. Being a Waggy parent, I can certainly appreciate your work.8)
