Hi Fabo members. I am currently running mopar electronic ignition with orange ecu box. I would like to install a rev limiter for strip use. Is there a unit out there that can be used with out changing out the mopar ignition system. If so what are you guys using.

msd makes rev limiters that can be using with mp electronic ignitions.

Anymore suggestions FABO members. Can the Mallory unit be used.

I believe it would replace the orange box if you're thinking of the same one I am. Not that changing out the orange box for your typical CDI igntion is any harder than installing a rev limiter that works with the orange box.

Great so your telling me i can replace the orange ECU with the same thing with a built in rev limiter?. No wiring issues.?

hi, the mopar ign box will die if you use a rev limiter. the orange, silver, gold box will not stand up to a rev limiter for very long. the rev limiter will scramble the mopar box brains. if you need, install a MSD 6 Al box at the very least. I been through this before. I went to MSD 6al, then a 7AL now.
I used the mallory and the MSD rev limiters. had same results with both.
dead control box!!!!

Er, it's not technically the same thing inside at all, but there are setups that would replace just the orange box and the ballast resistor and let you keep the same distributor and coil and the rest. If I were feeling determined I could probably come up with a harness that would let you swap one for another if for some reason you want an easy way of changing between the two.

thanks for the advice. I am looking at a Mallory 6-al box, procomp coil and a high line distributor combo. what do you think.

I'd probably go with the Summit house brand CDI, it seems to be a private label thing made by Mallory with the same features as the one they sell under their own name but cheaper.

Nope. I disagree. I even talked with Msd about this.

Ive been running a MSD Soft touch with my mp Chrome box for about 3 years or so.
works perfect. Both boxes were bought USED in 2004.

you may have had it wired incorrectly ?

As long as your not ramming the crap out of the limiter its not going to affect it. I shift at 5800 or so and my chip is at 6700 just for safety.

It worked perfect when i blew up my 8.75 rear end . saved my engine from seeing 9000 rpm's

Not only that , but everyone ive ever talked to that went from a chrome or gold box to a MSD 6al/7al , gained NOTHING.

I've been trying to run an MSD Soft Touch rev limiter with a chrome box Mopar ign. Hooked it up as MSD instructions but will not work. Could you possibly give me a link to the electrical hookup. Are you using the white or purple wire for the hookup ? Thanks in advance, Keith.
