Have you ever bought anything off of Craigslist and then sent a money order to someone that you have never heard of?

If so how did it come out?
How did you go about it?

I recommend paypal, you can get a refund easy if there is no tracking number. If it is cheap enough, I would not hesitate to send a MO. You are taking a risk, just how much are you willing to risk?

i have couple times went well, i talked to the guy about the part, i usually only look for stuff local. i would not do a lot of money, use a postal M.O. if you can

I've done that several times. I dont like paypal, so I use a postal money order and then send it certified mail with return signature required. Tell your post office what you want to do and there is a way to accomplish it and still be protected. I've bought parts all over the country this way. I ALWAYS talk on the phone with the seller first...if you don't get a good feeling by talking to them or cant get them on the phone in person, dont do it.

I have never bought parts on CL by sending money to an unknown buyer, but I have sold parts that way. Two weeks ago, I was selling a 3rd member that an out of town buyer really wanted. He said he would send me a cashier's check for the full amount if I would hold the part for a couple of weeks. He did, and I am waiting on him to come and get his part.

Like others have said, talk to the guy on the phone. You'll get a good feel for him in a couple of short conversations. If he is the kind of guy that you can never reach by phone, or if he is a jerk towards you, I'd beware.

I have the same experience as the last two posts,I always talk with them first and have bought and sold a few things successfully.I will not accept paypal for most things sold on c.l. because if the guy wants a deal on shipping such as greyhound then that voids paypals policies. If it is not shipped to the exact confirmed address then paypal wont protect the seller (for whatever thats worth!) and if the guys a scammer he could pick up the part and open a claim leaving the seller without the part and having to refund the money.

i have bought a intake carb $75.00 plush 20.00 shipping to some guy 6 hours away kinda scary sending money to some 1 u dont know i made him sign for the money to show proof also u a money order from the post office i got my parts worked out well

I also have sold to out of town buyers. I held a k frame for months, It was paid for but I lost his phone number. After about 2 to 3 months he called and picked it up. I would never rip anyone off, but he didn't know that. All ended well.

I would never send a money order to someone I didn't know, but I had sold several things that way, including a couple stingrays, one for $300 and one for $800 and both of them sent me money orders and the only communication was email.

Postal money orders are a good way to receive payment, but there is no protection for the buyer. Once the person gets the money order and they cash it, whats to say they will send your parts?

I bought a complete rear for my Dart from a guy I had never met. Talked to him on the phone, seemed like a nice guy and was trying to help me out. He took it all apart, painted it and shipped it in separate boxes so it wouldn't be freight. Sent him a money order for $800 and had absolutely no problems. He even gave me some advice for putting it back together!

I was a little nervous though, I have purchased mainly new parts from online vendors.

hey, i know it wasn't on craigslist, but after talking to a guy from here for 15 second os the phone, i sent him a toal of 4 usps money orders that totaled up to over 3,000 for a car. sight-unseen, and not a long conversation either. now i am just waiting for the transport company to find a driver.
i just got the title in the mail, and he(scott) is a honest person, and does what he says.

so yes, i guess it depends on how much you are willing to lose. cause i am sure there are alot of scammers out there
