Considering doing the disk conversion for my '72 Duster 340. Is it really worth the time and expense. I will be using the manual brake kit without power assist. Please advise and thanks. Terry.

Oh hell yes. I switched my Valiant from the nine inch drums to the 12 inch (okay 11.75) rotors on the front and 11x2 inch drums on the back. I use a '75 Duster manual disc brake master with an adjustable proportioning valve. This car now stops like you dropped an anchor. I no longer have to plan my decellerations a week in advance. Plus, I get to use the more common big bolt pattern wheels.

I'll repeat that, Oh hell yes! Man I can't beleive how great it stops with no pulling even after some heavy breaking. The best mod you can do if you have drums up front. The kit I ordered has the 4 & 4.5 BC on them. This is on a 71 340 Demon.

Thanks guys for the input. Yes..I guess I will make the phone call. Any brand you might recommend? Again..thanks guys. Terry.

I used the Scarebird conversion set and I am very pleased with the results when you consider the price was under $300.00 for everything new (no used parts involved)

Yes that kit (Scarebird) is very good for the money. The big thing is what BC (4 or 4.5) are you going to run? There is lots of great kits out there from Wilwood, nice aluminum hubs, to Stainless steel brake kits. to just upgrading to stock disc's from a newer A body.

I've always just used factory parts, but it can add up, too. The only car I haven't switched is my 68 GTS convertible, due to its rarity, but I do have an extra set of Kelsey-Hayes discs that will probably go on before I put it back on the road again.

The scarebird kit looks really good to me also, but I can't stomach the thought of putting Chevy calipers and rotors on my Mopar. I am one of the weirdos who wouldn't use so much as a washer if it came out of a Chevy parts bin. If the guy at scarebird would figure out how to use Caravan calipers and rotors for those of us who want to keep our 14" wheels, or Intrepid calipers and rotors for everybody else, he would be swamped with orders, mine first.

i do have to agree with this one, it would be nice to put parts off an intrepid or something though

One of the after market kits (Stainless Steel Brakes, I think), lets you keep your 4 in BC also.

OK, I can dig the brand loyalty, but, when it comes to the difference between stacking my hard to find grille into the back of the douche in the Honda Civic or running a General Mayhem brake caliper, well.......
Besides, isn't our beloved mother owned by the goosesteppers now?
For the record, My front brakes are mixed from a '71 Challenger caliper, a '75 Sport Fury wagon rotor, Aspen spindles and Caliper adapter brackets from a Cordoba. The rear end is from a '75 Duster and the brakes are '72(?) Fury 11x2's. The biggest cost was the rearend, the rest of it went down for something like five C notes.

Wheels are so limited in the 5 x 4 bolt pattern unless you are getting something custom. Just something to think about. Peace

I just ordered up the SSBC setup today for my 66 Valiant because they allow the 4" bolt pattern and my 8 3/4 is 4" pattern. Luckily I already have some sweet 15" wheels from Stockton Wheel Company with the 4" pattern. Picked them up from Ebay for $300. I have a full 73-76 disc brake setup that I might be willin to sell. Was going to use it later on my other Valiant. I may post it on the for sale forum.
