Commando valve covers

I'm looking at a set of later 273 Commando valve covers (rubber grommet PCV) and the passenger cover has a bracket attached to the side. I know it belongs there as I have seen it on other sets,but,just exactly what does this bracket hold,or what does it do? Is there a plastic piece that attaches to it to hold something up?..or down? I have attached a pic I found showing the bracket...

The bracket is for either the wiring harness or one of the heater hoses. In any event this cover is intended for the passenger side of the motor. I havent seen a commando like this before, Ive seen stock (not commando) 71 or so A body 340 small block covers that have this bracket, however. Maybe someone transplanted the fins from a commando set onto a 71 set ??? Not sure. I have a later set of commando covers that use the grommet pcv - so I speak from experience.

All small block four barrel motors should have this bracket. It is to hold the wires out of the way of the secondary opening linkage.

Thanks Jim. I have a set of the earlier (65-66?...2 stove pipes) Commando covers and they dont have this bracket. Do you (or anyone else) happen to have a pic or a link to a pic of the bracket that attaches to this one?

Here's a pic of the ones I have....no bracket...

1964/65 273 Valve covers don't have a bracket on the top.

Are you sure you don't have two driver side covers,???. I have never seen a "set" like that. But you see something new all the time.

On my 67 coupe that bracket holds the wiring harness on the pass side, the little bracket on the front is for the alternater wires.

Dave....thanks for the reply. Yeah, anything's possible when your talking Mopar, and yes, I could have 2 drivers side covers.
I just checked the ones on my '67 Dart. They are different from side to side. Pass. side has 4 small brackets,3 along the side and 1 at the front, all for the wiring harness that runs down that side for the alt. and temp switch. The driver's side has no brackets of any kind,completely smooth. I assume the ones on my Dart are the early version,with the two "stove pipes".

So what you're saying is, that bracket on the newer covers is just there to hold the wiring harness,similar function to the 3 early ones? The wiring harness just runs underneath that metal bracket?

In the attached pic,the circles show where the small brackets are on my covers......

The 1964/65 Valve covers in my bedroom, decorating the wall,
have the small wire "brackets", and the large, oil fill tops.

I bought 2 sets of these on Ebay, for spares, the ones set, are now
on my 1987 Dodge W150 plow truck,
the stock ones rusted so bad they were leaking oil, LOL.

Hey, Lee. I have my 2 barrel set gracing the walls in my garage too.

To continue the mystery of these covers, I found another set,while surfing E-Bay, and they have the "2 stove pipes" AND the large bracket. I thought the "2 stove-pipe" models had just the small brackets...sheesh,this is gettin' complicated!

PS...Lee,are those Ch*vy hold down clips I see under those valve cover bolts????....Tsk..Tsk...Tsk!!!

I have no clue, they were on the engine, when I took off the old rusted valve covers. 1987 Dodge W150, 318 with a 4bbl spreadbore, a Fisher
snowplow, and lotsa rust.
