All that for 600? Sounds good. I'd buy especially if the trany is a 727 or 4 speed. Remember to ask for loose parts that go with it and i'd do some inspecting of my own.

check the numbers on the block!

did it run? what trans? heads? intake? $600 doesnt sound too shabby but make sure it is a 340. just my 2cents

If it is lagit.....is it worth it? I think i need to jump on this offer. How many horses would you guess if its stock

yeah..i've haqd enough trouble just findin' a 340 short block for $500

well right off the bat its a aluminum intake. so its likely not stock. i'd say its worth it..

however get out of him the bore size if its been rebuilt. And also check the numbers on the block...there is not a half bad chance its a 318 since 318s are blue like the one in the picture..

Later 340's were also blue but I'd deffinetly check cause people like to pass off stuff as it is not just to make a buck. Since it's out of the car it will be easy to tell. Just look on the drivers side and it'll have the casting number followed by the cubic inch. Also look on the pass side and the date will be cast onto it. If it's 72 or newer it's a cast crank low compression 340. Not worth as much but still a 340. Ask questions. How many miles? What is bore? etc. What good would a 340 be if it's bored .080 over. (I've seen people do it just to sell it).

Stock horsepower depends on year. 68 was a good stout 300+. 72-73 was a much lower 240 when brand new. Somewhere in between I'd guess. Any of them run good. I had a 72 Cuda 340 when I was 19 and it ran 14.90's bone stock.

I saw that ad on Craig's List. Like said, check to make sure it is what he is advertising. He should be willing to pull a head (or both) to allow inspection of the bores and to check the heads. Even if it's .080 over it can be sleeved, but is that what you really want?

He has not replied to 8 emails i sent yet. Maybe he hasnt checked yet, dont know. I will keep all posted on any updates. Sure would be nice to have a 340 :love4: in my slant 6 dart. I was gonna go 318, but a 340 sure is sexier :headbang:

yep...if ya got the 318 I'd stay with it.....plus it's more fun to out run some one and ssee the look on their face when they find out it's a 318.

I'd agree. I'm not running a bottle setup, just put together with spare parts really, mine was daily driven, so I dont have nearly the times you do. But given my altitude the car runs very well for such a simple build.

Looks can be decieving. :headbang:

My '72 Duster 340 came with a forged crank stock. I know they switched over to cast during the '72 model year but don't know what month they did this. Maybe someone out there can inform us for sure. Yes as everyone has said verify it is indeed a 340 block. Terry.

This ad could possibly be a scam. I saw the same ad on Bay Area Craigslist and thought about buying but have not moved on it. This poster did not include a phone #.

I've challenged numerous posts on Craigslist that seemed fraudulent on the cars for sale listing and challenged them for a while. now they don't post Mopars and may be moving to parts. Make sure you get contact info with phone #. $600 seems awefully low for 340 + trans, especially if it is ready to run.

Ya if he was lagit I would think he would have responded by now. :cussing: Well it would have been nice. Oh well. I do have a 318 I was planning on putting in and guess i will still go that route. (until i can afford the 360 create). I thought this was another score...Ive been so lucky on my Dart build. I got my 318,from a 68 charger, with engine stand, complete for $100. My 8 3/4 rear w/ 323 pumpkin complete for $75 :headbang: And am pickink up a 904 or 727(my choice),Freshly rebuilt, for $100.
Cant complain, Just been blessed at the right times.

Whats wrong with the 318 that you want a 360 for? How fast do you want to go, and how much do you have to throw at it?

nothings wrong with the 318. just want the most i can get for the car.360 seems like good hp out of the box and its complete. I read the article you posted about the 318,and that was interesting, just dont know if i want to put that kind of money into it.
I live in CA and everybody here wants an arm and a leg to do anything.I was quoted $300-$600 just to change the gears in my pumkin, with me suppling the parts and it out of the car :cussing: . Asked a machine shop about work on the moter, heads and installing new parts....$2500-$3500.So it just seems more realilistic to go for the create.
