    Torque plates

How round the cylinder is makes a hell of a lot more an issue with ring seal than a thou or two in the ring gap does at least in our shop!

    Torque plates

On our race engines (Especially Small Block Mopars) not only do we use a Deck Plate but we home the blocks at the water temperature that we actually stage the race cars at. Does it make a measurable difference? I do not know but we sure do get our feet wet a lot and go thru a lot of Socks.

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

No Oil pressure reading is fine. Oil only goes to rockers in a few certain positions of the engine rotation. Rotate it a bit at a time as Myron said in post #2. He knows these engines as well as anyone I know!

Finally have this set of 2.08 Edelbrock heads done.

We run the LS Springs exclusively on our small block stockers. We must run stock spring height and if there is any challenge it is getting the spring pressure low enough on our 318 Stockers with real Hydraulic lifters. I do not like to see very much over 200 on the seat.

318 with Edelbrok perfomer intake and 600 cfm 4 barrel, what headers please?

If you decide on headers stick to 1 5/8 size on your combo.

    Valve Spring Estimated Delivery

I have had good experiences with Isky springs. 3105 I believe is what I used on small blocks.

    1974 340?

You can pick up a pair of calibers that work well at Harbor Freight or similar place for a very low investment compared to a set of Mics. I always bring then parts hunting! They have saved me numerous blunders!

    Are 340’s rare

As a lot of you gentleman know, I race all the small blocks in Stock/SS. The 318 has smaller main caps and unless you replace them (Pricey), I have broken several when much over 400HP in a drag racing application. The 340 Heads flow better than the 360 Heads unless you spend a lot on money on...

Coolant in cylinder 8 on 318

Possible cracked Cylinder Wall = Unfortunately. Often visually hard to see on a new engine.

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

Thanks for the Kind Words. I could never even hope to be a thousand of the witness that Paul was. Even thou he was a fabulous witness he said = "My righteousness is just like filthy rags". Except for the Blood of Jesus my plight would be absolutely hopeless. Son of David = Have mercy on your...

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

The X heads are 894 number. They do flow a bit better stock and chambers are bit better aligned to block. However, on a stock low compression 340 you will never feel the difference in performance. I have done extensive research and testing on these different heads for 50 years. If you gained...

    Shuebeck lifters?

They made solid lifters. They are out of business for several years. You can shim any of them to make the lifters solid easily. I run them as shorten travel Hydraulics. I never run them as solids = they have any clearance and the bottoms have shattered and have turned $20,000+ engines into junk...

Valve Spring Pressure Loss After Break-In

I ran Isky Springs on our 340 Stockers (#3105) for several decades. If the quality is still the same = I set them at 165 on the seat and seldom saw them below 158 to 160 when I freshened them up after 50 runs.

Any gains adding 1.6 rockers to stock 273?

In my experience the best bang for the buck is usually putting a stock 4 Brl. Carb and intake on a 2 Brl. equipped engine given the engine is in good shape.

Question for those who have used Speedmaster assembled heads or valve springs

CWC is a very high grade/quality of Cast Iron cam core. I doubt the Chinese ever heard of it or give a ****. It should be stamped into the camshaft to identify it.

Question for those who have used Speedmaster assembled heads or valve springs

I run at least 140 lbs on my Street Cars that have solids and 350 lbs open with no issues for the last 60 years. More on my Race Cars than that. However, I do NOT let my car idle for any extended period of time ever = Just shut them off if more than a minute or two. However, I use quality CWC...

A couple reasons why I hate doing port work after others

I am Done working on other people's stuff!! If they bring it to my shop, I will fix it for free if I can do it in less than an hour for no charge given they leave it for a few days until I can find the time. Beyond that, I will give them my opinion, but I will not put my hands on it! If they...
