I bought a built 383 that I have heard/seen run. Engine had no smoke at cold startup, 80 lbs. (observed) of oil pressure and had a lot of cam lope at idle. The owner that built the engine doesn't have much documentation, but say's professionally ported HP iron heads, KB pistons (~10-1 Comp)...

I would use a 3.79 type deal with that short deck, but they probably had a bunch of short deck blocks around they need to get rid of. Yes, that results in a short custom piston. Nothing wrong with it in a race motor

Get this one.. it has the terminals offset so they don't get near the block.. have one on my car that's been working fine ACDELCO 3371096 $75 on rock auto.. BTW.. looking at this pit it also has 1 big and small hole but fit my '85 318 perfectly...

the LCA has to come out (or at least far enough back) to yank the strut rod. remember to undo the front nut first before the nut at the LCA or it's likely the strut rods just spins in the socket.
