what inter changes between a LA and magnum small block. stuff like timing chain, timing chain cover, oil pump and oil pan. distributor ? will 340 exhaust manifolds fit a magnum head? i know the intake is different. are the LA accessories able to work on the magnum?

Some of the M1 manifolds used a smaller thermostat, maybe the same one as used on Magnum engines. Your new manifold is probably specced for the one used in V8s from the 1950s until the Magnum came out.

Just a note that Magnum manifolds hit the top of a PS gear box. They clear a manual gear box, though.

I dunno that just doesn’t look safe, that motor would have to be chained down because if it shifts up it’s going to push on the steering shaft. Wish there was some better picture cause it looks like it’s resting on the manifold……….

In '78-'79 or so Mopar smallblocks went to a smaller, offset thermostat. Magnum and Chebby size (maybe slant 6 size too? Dunno.). Most aftermarket manifolds are sized for the earlier thermostats and housings.

The factory Magnum kegger manifolds are easy to modify & will make pretty good horsepower if they are modded right. Unless you're doing high RPM drag racing, they are great manifolds for the street, easy & dirt cheap to get + they make good low-down torque. Check out Utawsome Performance for...

Conversion motor mounts, correct exhaust manifolds for the A body, or make Magnum manifolds work, and you will need the transmission from the charger. Larger radiator. A few wiring changes. Upgrade the differential and when you do, you'll need a shortened driveshaft. That's the basics.

ive used a couple magnum 5.9s. An LA 360 car pan works. I used an LA timing set. I did use the magnum accessories to get the serp belt set up and higher amperage alternator.I used la headers on magnum heads and magnum headers on la heads. no leaks.

Just a note - first year of the 5.2 magnum was '92. '93 for the 5.9 magnum.

91 5.2 is a Magnum and was rated 235 HP with the "large exit" Magnum manifolds. Rating went down to 230 with smaller outlet manifolds. 5.9 was rated 245 HP and was the same build as the first gen "crate" 360, rated at 300 gross HP.

I had 340 manifolds on my on my mild magnum build, went with the cheap summit headers, and remflex gaskets thread locker on bolts. I’ll never go back to manifolds the amount of torque I gained and h.p was worth it!

Yes I think you’re right. Because when I put my old thermostat housing on the M1, it was too big and I needed to get one for a magnum, so does this mean that the larger one is standard for LA intake size?

Based on the pictures on the website, the only iron Magnum head Hughes lists doesn’t appear to have the needed material to seal 340 manifolds. Plus they have the Magnum intake bolt pattern and would require the extra cost of redrilling them if you wanted to run an LA intake. The aluminum heads...

very early dakota on the pass side. and then pretty much whatever fits on the driver's side. i think mid 90's dak have the magic on those.

Nope. The bolt holes are different. LA angled (almost 90° to the head) and the magnums are vertical. Some new manifolds have dual bolt holes.

So it looks like the exhaust from the LA manifolds are compatible with the Magnum engine. So my headers should work. What about the intake manifold (SB-LA to 360 Magnum)? If not what manifolds are there for a carburetor set up on a Magnum?

why. I know several guys that put la heads on their magnum engines. They do that to get a better choice of intake manifolds. But why do they also put magnum heads on an la engine? I guess that I don't understand why. If your magnum heads are cracked between the valve seats, new not cracked...

This is the bracket used on the passenger (right side). I was fitting the 5.9 in a 64 Dart with the Magnum manifolds. I have not welded the mount bracket for the 3rd bolt yet in the picture. Everything is tight and I had to slightly dimple the Mildon pan at the steering center link for hard left...
