    Fusible link guage?

Well, I feel like an *** now...it turns out, in my haste to get it fixed last night (and get out of the mid-20's weather, as I'm a true shade tree mechanic, with no garage space), I inadvertently forgot to plug the center firewall connector back into the block--I had pulled it to find the burnt...

    Fusible link guage?

I'll check the wiring again tomorrow....it's 25 degrees here tonight, and I'm inside where it's warm! :) Rob

    Fusible link guage?

Well, I went down and bought some 14ga. fusible link wire and some butt connectors, and hooked it back up, bypassing the block connection. I also disconnected the amp gauge and bolted and taped the two wires together to bypass it; the connections were a bit loose on the gauge, anyway. Now, I...

    Fusible link guage?

My fusible link in my '74 Duster fried yesterday, all the way up to the bulkhead harness plug. Since this left me with no excess to wire to connect into, I'm going to bypass the connector and install a fusible link in-line. My question is this: What gauge do I need, 14 or 16 amp? I can't find...

Car shuts off when put in drive

That being said, I decided to check a few more things this afternoon. Feeling like the slight hesitation that's left might be in the ignition, I checked my plug wires and plugs, just to be on the safe side (since the car has been in dormant storage for several months now). I found that all of...

Car shuts off when put in drive

I'm writing from work now, but I have to say that wiring the choke open like Johnny suggested has completely changed the way the car runs; it doesn't shut off at stop lights, and it ran a heckuva lot smoother this morning, on the way to work. Maybe it's my choke, after all. Rob

Car shuts off when put in drive

Cracked, I don't have a vac gauge, but I do have an induction timing light; my initial timing was set at 10-11 ATDC when I installed the new distributor last year. I'll try the distributor test in the next few days...I've got to drive it to work tomorrow, so I can't work on it tonight. Rob

Car shuts off when put in drive

Maybe so...but as I said, I have no way to check the rpm's...:) Rob

Car shuts off when put in drive

I'll try this Wednesday, Johnny; I'll be driving a different car tomorrow, because I have an appointment to keep, and don't need the aggravation of a malfunctioning car. Cracked...I don't have a tach, or any type of instrument to tell what the rpm's are.... Rob

Car shuts off when put in drive

I’m writing this from work, because I wanted to report the car’s behavior on the way here this morning (26 miles). Even though it did not shut off when put in gear, I noticed that after the car warmed up, and at one of my 6 traffic light stops, the engine still tends to miss...

Car shuts off when put in drive

73, I just got back in from trying your suggestions, and now the car seems to be running OK...when I drop it into gear, it doesn't shut off at all. Although the float gas levels seemed to be fine, I noticed that the float drop was seriously off...it's supposed to be 15/16" at the far end of...

Car shuts off when put in drive

Guys, I was going to monkey around with the jets and metering rods on my 600cfm Edelbrock 1406 (as I stated in another post that I started here), but before I do that, right now I have a new problem that's severely affecting the use of the car (for what it's worth, I have an electric pump and a...

    Speedo Assembly

Thanks, pishta, I'll check it out this afternoon...I have two 727 trannies here at the shop (for my big-block project), and both still have the gear housings installed (like below)... BTW, I'm Delta One's dad (the original poster), and the chief mechanic on his Duster....I'm just now getting...

Does anyone know if the speedo gear assembly from a 727 would be the same for the 904? Are they interchangeable? Rob

    Recommended carb jets

Thanks for the tips, guys....it's raining cats and dogs here, but as soon as it dries up, I'll check those rod sizes and report back. Meanwhile, I'll read the manual. :) Rob

    Recommended carb jets

I've got the acc pump link set to the center hole; I'll try to move it to the lower one to see what happens. Can I order the larger metering rods separately? Rob

    Recommended carb jets

Guys, My son's '74 Duster stock 318 has an Edelbrock 1406 600cfm straight out of the box (on a Weiand 8022 intake), and it runs OK, but tends to bog at times, or when you crowd it a little....like it's not getting enough gas. We also have an Edelbrock electric pump and regulator installed...

    Edelbrock 1406 whistling

Thanks again, guys, and especially for helping me feel less of an ***. :D And yeah, Stroker...I actually DO have hi-frequency hearing loss; I just never thought about it making me misjudge the location of the whistle. :| Rob

    Edelbrock 1406 whistling

YOU AIN'T GONNA BELIEVE THIS......I figured it out. ALL of it. The Whistle. The missing. Everything. And it makes me look like a big dumb, asshole. I discovered it by pure accident this afternoon, when I was chugging home from work. My brakes suddenly "went", and after a bit of...

    Edelbrock 1406 whistling

UPDATE: I replaced the intake gaskets and the new carb base gasket, and I’m proud to say that I have stopped those leaks. Finally. Liberal spraying of carb cleaner around the base and the intake make no impact whatsoever. But, here’s the kicker…THE DAMN THING STILL...

    Edelbrock 1406 whistling

Not really....5, 6 inches, maybe? And the way I was spraying that carb cleaner everywhere (without a nozzle straw), there's no doubt it was being sucked up by the intake, making me think it was the carb base. If you recall, I never said it had a leak on any sides but the front and the...

    Edelbrock 1406 whistling

I'll check it, DD...but if my memory serves, back when we were installing it, I let my 18 year old son install the intake while I was doing something else (hell, he wanted to help his dad in his own car ), so with all the activity going on trying to get the Duster up and running (it was a...

John...that's what I used on it the first time; I am/was a bit gun-shy at using them again, because I wasn't sure if the Ede gaskets are made different than the Felpro's, for that manifold application... It's on the way. Rob

    Edelbrock 1406 whistling

    Edelbrock 1406 whistling

OK....I tried two, new square bore gaskets on the plate, and it made no difference. I put the Ford 1406 carb on again, with the plate and gaskets, still no change. Then I did the ultimate no-no (hey, I'm desperate), and used Permatex No. 2 on the old gasket with the carb in question....still...
