    Lifters not moving freely

So as suggested above a regular cylinder hone type would work? With the "dingleberries" on it?

    Stock pushrod length for 360

Ok heres the other question I had. I discovered I had a bent pushrod and I think Im just going to replace them all since its cheap to do. I need to know which pushrods to order. I assume its the 7.5 inch 5/16 version for a hydraulic non adjustable valvetrain? I measured the others I have and I...

    Lifters not moving freely

I may be able to hit up Harbor Freight and grab one if the 3 pronged one wont work. Why is one better than the other? I suppose I didnt consider that the block may be tougher than the honing stones but wouldnt have been confident enough to just dive in without being sure either.

    Lifters not moving freely

What would you suggest I do to remedy this? All I have is a 3 pronged honing device. I think it would work its just a matter of keeping the junk from falling on the cam and in the motor and perhaps "over-honing" the bores.

    Lifters not moving freely

I watched a video of that tool being used and unless it can be used on an assembled engine that will not be an option. That tool would slam into my cam lobes on its way through the bores not to mention the "ball" end comes off it and you have reach through the cylinder bores to extract it. My...

    Lifters not moving freely

Ok so Im on the home stretch of putting this 360 together and finally hearing it run and have run into 2 problems and I probably make a seperate thread on the other problem. So as the title reads I have installed my lifters in their bores but just barely. The fitment was very tight and it took a...

    Hedman tight tubes

Sometimes I wish I'd be ok with fenderwells since they are in more abundance for these cars. If my car wasn't as original as it is and as decent of shape as it is I'd just shortcut it and get fenderwells. I've thought many times about buying a crappier early A just so I could hack away at it...

    Hedman tight tubes

Well that would be ok but the idea of spending more than 1k for headers is not something i can handle. Even if I had the money. But I don't which is why I'm looking at these tight tubes since they are about $250 right now new. Got a guy that will do the mods to the primary and collector and may...

    Hedman tight tubes

Anyone else still running these headers or planning to? What was the process like getting them to fit? Did the engine have to be loosened and lifted or did it fit ok after the primaries were moved around? I have seen in a few other threads about the head pipe matching up and what it took to make...

    Hedman tight tubes

Did you have to end up doing the #1 primary mod like us early A guys have to do? one of your top down pics almost looks like you did.

    Hedman tight tubes

Hi all, gotta question about these tight tubes for early A's. I checked these out a few years ago when it was a popular topic which now seems to have dwindled but I'm now in a position where I'm looking at an alternative to crappy 273 manifolds and I need to get this particular thing figured out...

    Need help in Springfield, Mo

I used to sort of be apart of that club. Havent had contact with anyone there for many years. Didn't end so well with one of the members there. Very wary of doin that. If I didn't have any other choice then I guess I would have to.

    Need help in Springfield, Mo

Hello all, I didn't know where else to put this but saw a few others do it so hope it works. My problem is I need a camshaft degreed and need some one specifically knowledgeable with Mopars so here I am. Last time I had a friend do it, well, didn't turn out well at all and he's the only one I...

    Manual to auto swap

Excellent information I will pull the converter just to make sure its a non lockup. The converter in it now DOES have the weight on it which was one of the first things I checked after I found out about the weighted converter 360s needed. I have the Numbers off the side of the tranny if anyone...

    Manual to auto swap

Aj the tranny isn't anything special its just a 727. t has the long tailshaft and everything. Not a short shaft like an RV or anything. I think I have a picture of it somewhere but theres no external signs it came out of a 4x4. Looks like a car tranny to me. If someone could run the numbers on...

    Manual to auto swap

I haven't been able to find a lot of info on this tranny but what I did find is its a non lockup out of a 4x4 truck. I figured it was a lock up as well considering the age but it appears I got lucky. So cruising at the stall RPM or just under wont overheat it?

    Manual to auto swap

Ok so what the book on hotrodding small blocks is true but doesn't affect me? I wont have to pull out the bushing or anything? The transmission is an 80s 727 if that matters. So is the 360 if that matters also. Just want to be clear on this. Also, if I get a 2400-2500 stall will I be able to...

    Manual to auto swap

OK so I'm doin an engine swap in my early A, going from slant 6 to 360. Well the 360 is out of a truck that had a factory manual behind it and I'm putting a 727 on it instead. Sounds ok right? Well, I ran across a section on crankshafts in "how to hotrod small block mopars" I believe and it made...

    727 casting numbers help

Can anyone confirm or deny? If I have a 318 flex plate and converter would buying an externally balanced flex plate from say B&M fix my issue or do I actually need a different converter?

    727 casting numbers help

I'll have to check that thank you for the pic. Isn't this issue easily resolved by using a B&M externally balanced flex plate? It's the 3/4 circle zinc plated one they have.

    727 casting numbers help

Ya I know the transmission is the same outside of the external balanced flex plate and/or converter. The guy I got it from said it came from a 360 and while he never said it was the factory tranny that came on that 360, I got the impression from that was the case. So if it is a 318 tranny, I...

    727 casting numbers help

I was told it was an 85 model out of a truck so close enough but I was told it was a Trans from a 360. I have no way of verifying this without dissecting the numbers. It has the convertor and flex plate attached, is there any clues on those parts I can look at to know if they are off a 360? I...

    727 casting numbers help

OK so I was looking at my 727 I got with my 360 and was wanting to make sure it came from a 360 or jot so anyone with decoding skills your help would be appreciated. Btw these numbers are not in the. Pdf that's been going around. Very close but not quite. Hopefully the pic shows up.

    360 swap manifolds ?s

OK who here is using solid mounts in their early A and where did you get them?

    360 swap manifolds ?s

At one time I looked into a big block swap and buying the Schumacher mounts raises the engine up to help alleviate clearance issues. As far as manifolds go, using factory Abody big block manifolds work OR using the old school sweeping manifolds from a max wedge car work. And that's in a 67 and...

    360 swap manifolds ?s

Id absolutely do that if it would work but it doesn't. The manifold goes down instead of back and it ends right into the power steering. Raising or lowering the engine may help or as talked about here, shaving the flange down would bring it closer to the block and head which may work or help or...

    360 swap manifolds ?s

Autozone has them for 16 bucks a pop. What I'm curious about is whether or not the slant six rubber mounts are the same as the V8s? If so that woud save me a lot of cash.

    360 swap manifolds ?s

Manual swap just isn't an option for me. This car has the original factory power steering that it was ordered with. How much of that 273 manifold can actually be hogged out before it gets dangerously thin? Also I'm trying to find some rubber mounts for my swap and I'm having a hard time with it...
