Need Help - Wiper linkage assembly

Bless you. Those posts will do the trick for me. Thanks so much. It is so difficult to figure out how things should be oriented when you're working under the dash with limited space. Now I can get those wipers working so I can reassemble the rest of the dash and get an inspection sticker!

Need Help - Wiper linkage assembly

Can someone post a diagram or give a good description as to how the windshield wiper linkages should be assembled? When I got my '74 Valiant, the linkages were in disarray because the bushings had rotted. I have new bushings, but I cannot figure out the correct orientation for the two...

Know who can fix a radio?

It's an AM. Completely dead. I have to check the fuses and buy a new speaker to test the radio before I send it somewhere. Looks like my next chance to test the radio will be this weekend. I'll let you know what I come up with.

[SOLD] Looking for 2 bbl carb for a 1974 318

Need a Carter BBD 2 bbl carb for a '74 Valiant with a 318. I am especially interested if it is a #8028 carb. Willing to pay $75 to $150 plus shipping depending on carb condition. ($150 would be new or rebuilt in a box.) PM me with details and a picture if available. I am in South...

    Anti Sway Bar

I had front and rear sway bars installed on my '74 Valiant when it was in the shop for other front end work. Otherwise, I would have done it myself as the instructions indicated it was not complicated. Looking at the final installation, it looks easy to install too. All you will need is a...

Need to remove combustion chamber deposits

I did a compression test yesterday and I got some numbers that were quite high on some cylinders. The two cylinders with lower numbers were in line with what is expected. I believe I have deposits built-up in the combustion chambers. Anyone have a recommended product and/or procedure to remove...

just cant get the car to run right

The advance diaphram in my 74 318 is almost parallel to the engine crankshaft. Compared to my car, your timing would be way off. If this comparison is valid, and your timing light is showing 10 degrees BTDC, then I might start looking for a slipped distributor timing gear or a slipped timing...

just cant get the car to run right

I have some ideas. I hope they help. I have the same 2bbl/318 set-up on a '74 and I am having some idle/surging issues that I have been solving. I suspect you may have more than one problem. First, I would do what has been suggested above: check for vacuum leaks. All hoses. If you have...

    70 condensor question

I just had my A/C system reworked: Reman compressor, new dryer receiver, new expansion valve. I also had the system converted to R-134a. Your system should not have a suction throttling valve. It can take $150 to $300 to fill your car with R-12. Plus, these older systems leak more and...

have to close choke plate?? to keep car running-why??

This happens to my small engines if I forget to drain the gasoline out of them or add Stabil. My guess is that when the engine was sitting, there was still fuel in the carb bowl. It has gummed and is clogging the carb. Spray a carb cleaner in the carb, especially in the bowl vent to try...

Anyone know my carb jet size?

Great! My beast has no pull in second gear. That, and from the hesitation I had today with the cool weather, I can tell some adjustments/changes are needed. Waiting on new jets and the o'haul kit so I can go into the carb. I have some new advance springs...

Anyone know my carb jet size?

I found this "out there." So if your memory is correct, I have 0.092" jets. I just ordered new 0.095" jets off of Ebay. If your memory is incorrect, I'm out all of $10.00 (which includes shipping). Do you feel lucky today, Punk? Well, do you?:D Thank-you for the help.

    Premium Fuel?

This could indicate that the gasoline has ethanol in it. Ethanol has a very high octane rating. But ethanol is also very volatile so it evaporates quickly and leaves the lower octane components of the gasoline behind. Other high octane blending components, such as FCC gasoline, alkylate...

Anyone know my carb jet size?

Yes. Appreciate the info. I can order different sized jets for this carb from some specialty vendors. To get the current jet size I have to tear into the carb to find the numbers. I was hoping someone knows the jet size before I tear into the carb so I could have the larger jets available...

    The dogs ate the instructions

Without the ability to hear my voice when I replied, the reply could be a "smart" or a sincere reply. You had to use the context of the previous post to reach your conclusion. Enough said? I appreciate the "trial and error" advice. That, combined with the information that Tony provided...

Anyone know my carb jet size?

I have a 74 Valiant with a 318. It has the stock 2 bbl carb - it's a Carter BBD #8028. Does anyone know what jet size (jet#) is stock in this carb? I want to order the next larger size jets and have them available for when I o'haul the carb.

    Premium Fuel?

I'm a chemical engineer in a refinery. Here's what I know. Many brand name premium gasolines will have superior additive packages to regular gasoline. This may include anti-gum additives. Save yourself some money. If your gasoline will be in your tank longer than a month, use a product...

    Brake Effort OK? Need Advice

OK. Thanks for the feed back. I will do the leak-down test tonight. The booster looks really old as it has some rust on it. Could be the original booster and it is getting old (like me).

    Brake Effort OK? Need Advice

I'm a newer owner of a 1974 Valiant with 318 and factory power disc brakes. The power brakes require a lot more effort than I am used to. There is definately power assist - but pedal effort seems high compared to newer cars. Is this normal?? The previous owner had replaced the front pads...
