Convertible Top Pump Fluid?? 1963 Valiant

Thanks for the response - this is what I found on a mfg'ers site.... "Most cars 1967 and newer use automatic transmission fluid, from 1962-67 they may have used either automatic transmission fluid or brake fluid. Brake fluid can be detected by its pungent odor and transmission fluid smells more...

Convertible Top Pump Fluid?? 1963 Valiant

Hi folks - new to working on convertible parts...so bear with me. The pump struggles mightily to raise the convertible top on my 1963 Plymouth Valiant 200 Convertible. Not sure if the pump motor is low on fluid and will check that tomorrow, or top cylinder(s) are shot?? Real question is what...

Runs at FAST idle, not slow

I've been careful about setting the air/mix screw, I've tried it at 1 turn out, thru 3 turns out and no help. MAtter of fact, I can take airmix screw out and it does the same thing. I think the idle circuit is still clogged. I don't know how - I had it prof''ly rebuilt and then I rebuilt it...

Runs at FAST idle, not slow

Ok - got home early today and my son helped me with the "trick" KitC gave us on trying to clear the slow idle circuit in the carb. Net, it didn't work, we even tried while pumping carb cleaner in the idle screw mix inlet. It just doesn't seem to be getting enuf gas at slow idle to run, just...

Trying to figure out the fuel sending unit

I had the same question, and "rumblefish360" gave me this answer. Thanks RF360.... "It's simple, all cars got the 5/16 line unless it was a HEMI or 440 engine. Period. Hi-Po 383's didn't even get the 3/8 line in E or B body cars "

Runs at FAST idle, not slow

UPDATE: Ok - I got a carb rebuild kit from mike's carbs, did the rebuild and b4 I started the car, I disconected the fuel line from the gas tank, hooked up the fuel to some premium gas, used the cranking of the engine to purge the old fuel from the fuel line, thus ensuring I only had clean gas...

    Fuel line size?

Hi - I have 1963 Valiant 200, with a 225 slant 6, my question is the fuel line size. I was looking to replace the fuel sock in the gas tank, but I understand that there are two sizes of fuel lines used, 3/8" and 5/16", how do I know which size I have??? IF you say measure it, is it the ID or...

Runs at FAST idle, not slow

Muchas Gracias... for your thoughts, I appreciate the lead to the carb. I don't have a tach, just a timing light. I thot I'd bring it to a carb shop so it was done "right". I'm fairly handy(just rebuilt the lower unit on my Johnson 150 boat engine and it purrs....) so I think I'll order a...
