looking for suggestions for a upgrade to front disc brakes on my 62 lancer

thinking of upgrading to front discs on my 62 lancer. just looking for suggestions at this time. oem swap?, or aftermarket kits?

i am under the impression from some previous articles that 63 and later heads will work on the alum. block? the special was put on the head in 61&62, because they were a special head in those years. i have a alum. block 62 lancer, and love it. just planning for the future if a head is needed...

problem solved. the a body, and the b body units from 62 are the same except the reverse light switch location, and park levers. found a replacement assy from a 62 valliant. thanks to valliant patrol.

i got one from a 62 b bodie, but it does carry a different part number accordibg to the book. i don't know when i'll get around to trying it in the car. . will pm you to see what you are asking for the correct one

i would think there should be a few heads out there, as the failures were in the alum. blocks corroding away. apparently they scrapped the entire motor instead of just the blocks.

max, yes mine has the "special " on it. what i would like to find out is the production numbers of the car with the aluminum engine. from what i understand, there were around 46,000 alum block engines produced

i didn't know about the freeze plugs either, as i just got this aluminum block car a short time ago. oh yes, aluminum will freeze and crack. maybe chrysler engineers consider the whole block a big freeze plug!!!!

looks like the 62 valiant is missing the neutral button too? seems to be a common problemwhen you "pull" on a "push" button, as in putting it in park

i found the missing (n) button laying in the bottom of the dash after i got the assy. out. the reason the button fell out is that the metal fork that holds it has the bottom fork broken off. thus i am looking for a replacement shifter assy. if worse comes to worse, i could probably take it...

i wish i had your manual, but the one i have is a original 62 manual that says on the cover " lancer dart, and polara", and it shows nothing on the cluster removal on the lancer. it just says take out four screws, and lay the cluster forward? it looks like getting at the bolts that hold the dash...

yes, i don't know what they were thinking when they designed that heater box location. you have to remove it to get the valve cover off!!. anyways, if you have all the pieces, you can fix it. it is just fiberglass, and can be repaired.
