    4 Speed Conversion

My current car is a 1970 340 auto. It has a 72 date code block. I had a 1973 Duster 340 4spd until it rotted away in my driveway. Kids, mortgage, college, all that. But I gutted it before hauling away the body (RIP old friend). I have the engine, flywheel, bellhousing, clutch petals...

    Vacuum Secondaries

Thanks everyone for the wisdom. I've only had the Duster a couple of years so I don't know how fresh the engine is. I certainly am not going to red line it at 7000 rpm waiting for the secondaries to open. I don't want to be picking engine bits up off the pavement. But from what I read here the...

    Vacuum Secondaries

I've got a Holley 650 double pumper with mechanical secondaries from a previous 340 many years ago. Worked great in the 1973 Duster it was in. A rebuild kit is about 80 bucks. Option number 2.

    Vacuum Secondaries

I used the trick where you place a paper clip or bobbie pin on the shaft coming from the vacuum pod. If the secondaries are working the clip will be shoved down the shaft as the secondaries open. Took the car for a drive with a couple dead stop launches but the clip never moved. Are the springs...

    4 Speed Conversion

I live in Ontario Canada. I have a 1970 340 Automatic Duster with console. But I long for a 4 speed. Does anyone have a guesstimation of what it would cost to convert an automatic to a 4 speed. What kind of shop would be able to do this? I have the tranny, petals and drive shaft from a 1973 340...

    Vacuum Secondaries

I've got a 340 with a Holley 750. I was disappointed with the kick when I punched the throttle. I discovered with the help of a bobbie pin that the vacuum secondaries are not opening. I adjusted the throttle cable and gained more petal travel. The difference was amazing but the secondaries are...

14 inch on front, 15 inch on back

I like the stance. She sits almost level. P255 G60 on the back and P255 70 on the front. Small bolt pattern all around. What's the advantage to go to 15 inch tires on the back? Do you change the axles?

14 inch on front, 15 inch on back

I bought a 1970 Duster 340 back in Oct. I'm still researching what's stock on it and what's not. It's an original 340 automatic car and has a 8 3/4 rear end. It has 14 inch tires on the front and 15 inch tires on the back. Is this stock or has someone likely changed the rearend.

    340 Rad Hose Collapsing

Nope. The alternator and AC compressor have 2 belts together. Then the fan/water pump and power steering are on one.

    340 Rad Hose Collapsing

Well the hose spring solved one problem just not the problem I originally wrote about. A weird screeching noise I get at 3000 rpm. Pulled the fan belt off and the noise went away. So I'm thinking this narrows it down to the water pump or power steering pump. Sound seems to be right at the front...

    340 Rad Hose Collapsing

Dug out the rad from the 73 Duster I had. Still had the lower hose on it and sure enough it had the spring inside it. Going to insert it into the 70 Duster hose tomorrow if it doesn't rain. Thanks for the help guys!

    340 Rad Hose Collapsing

I recently purchased a 1970 340 Duster. My issue is when the rpms reaches about 3,000 I hear a horrible screeching noise. Under the hood and watching as I raised the revs I noticed the lower rad hose collapses at about the 3 grand mark resulting in the sound I hear. I'm hoping it's as simple as...
