i have a 741 X in my 67 dart gt (my mistake thought it was a 742). i found a 489 housing to swap in.. just trying to figure what u joint to use. thx mike

clear as mud. so the 741 X and the 742 use the same u joint? and with the 489 u have to use the combo joint small 741/742 and large 489 combo? thx mike

i found a 489 housing with a 4.30 gear and spool. lookin for a combo u joint to mate the smaller my 742 driveshaft to the larger 489 yoke / housing. thx for your help. mike

Iam doing a 489 swap from the 742 housing. been running the part # 7260/7290 combo u joint (found on the net)throu nappa website, advance, autozone etc.... looking for a good part # for the u joint and straps for the swap. Thank you. Mike

The kickdown band was way out of adj. i cant say thank you enough to ya'll for your help. saved me a bunch of time and $$$$. now some fresh type f and filter. thank you! Mike

just adj the linkage. (its a cable on mine) still slipping in 2nd only. gonna try to adj the kickdown band. what i found to adj it. loosen the 3/4 nut while holding 5/16 stud tighten the 5/16 stud till snug or 10 in lbs. back it off 1 1/2 turns. hold the 5/16 , tighten 3/4 nut to 35 ftlbs thx...

makes sense. ill let ya'll how it works out hope it cures my 2nd gear slip problem. thank you.
