Yep, i want to keep the manual transmission but the slant six bell housing won't bolt up to my 408 (360LA). Just wondering if bell housings were interchangeable for LAs

Bought another truck, pretty solid this time, 1980 D150 short box. Has a 3spd manual on the floor with a slant six. Can the 3spd bell housing be swapped so it will bolt to my 360LA block?

I'll probably have to run a small stall converter, haven't formulated the size yet. Definitely going to find a rear end with the factory 3.92 rear gears. I think the 98-99 came factory with those gears.

Great info, thanks! I can fab my own mounts and brackets when needed. I was going to go with the 727 i picked up, i think the 4x4 transmission is completely different than a regular 2wd transmission, but not totally sure.

My buddy told me to eliminate the transmission, transfer case and front 4x4 assembly to make it 2wd and 200lbs lighter.

Funny you mentioned the "B" control arms, that's the only control arms I could find, nothing for "D" series so I'm ordering the heavy duty ones, 4000lb I believe.

It's great seeing these old trucks getting a second chance on life. Mine just had a new 2bbl put on it and they did something to bypass the lean burn I think, it runs like a top!

Wow that's a sweet little truck! My 408 has an Edelbrock Performer mechanical fuel pump that is rated at 110gph with 6psi. Hope that answers your question.

Ok guys & gals, found a truck to put my 408 in. Its soooo pretty it will burn your eyes...:rofl:...Its a old forestry truck. 12bolt 9 1/4 limited slip with 355 gears. Buzzing dozen backed by a automatic.

These "GM" style distributors are a great swap idea, super easy and worry free. Some applications may have clearance issues though. My high school auto tech teacher had firewall clearance issues in his 85 pickup, can't remember why exactly.
