Throttle cable bracket identification (what do I have here) ?

Ok, slant 6 is possible, I would have been acquiring /6 parts way back at one time so this is possible.

Throttle cable bracket identification (what do I have here) ?

I have these two brackets which are practically identical: Left one has a couple of nuts welded to it but otherwise seems identical to the one on the right. The one on the right has a few more parts bolted to it, a rod that was cut off (with a torch) and a cable. My best guess is that it...

[WANTED] 1968 - 197? small block throttle cable bracket (in Ontario)

The throttle cable hold-down is a little higher and closer to the carb (and the angle is different) for a 4-barrel setup? But why the difference in the transmission kick-down rod setup?

[WANTED] 1968 - 197? small block throttle cable bracket (in Ontario)

Is there really a difference between 2 barrel vs 4? This is what I have now: That shaft with the U-shaped arm was welded on. This might have been done a long time ago when a polysphere 318 was swapped for an LA 318 and the bracket was re-worked. The U-arm is for the transmission...

    Is there a simple/easy way to ID a 273 engine vs 318?

Is that really the most distinctive difference between the two? (I already know the answer, but I have to ask)

    Is there a simple/easy way to ID a 273 engine vs 318?

I know they put /6 in C-bodies. I had a Canadian '65 Polara 4-dr with a /6 (and a Fury interior and dash). A US Monaco / Polara in '67 got 383's standard unless maybe you special ordered a 318. In Canada the standard was a 318 unless you upgraded to 383 or maybe special ordered a /6 (it might...

    Is there a simple/easy way to ID a 273 engine vs 318?

I thought it would have been common knowledge as far back as 30 years ago that Canadian 318's in 1967 were still polysphere's, speculation is that they were the leftovers from the US. If there's an example of a Windsor-made Mopar in 1967 with a small block that is an LA block (not the "A"...

    Is there a simple/easy way to ID a 273 engine vs 318?

Remember, this could be a polysphere we're talking about, not LA block.

    Is there a simple/easy way to ID a 273 engine vs 318?

I'm looking at a '67 Windsor-built car that the VIN says had a 318 (which means it would have been a polysphere). The current owner (who to me has an unknown level of familiarity with vintage Mopar mech/tech) says the car has a 273. Maybe someone told him that, and he doesn't know any better...

What is this open cavity in my 318 heads?

What is this open cavity in the heads of my 318, and should I be concerned that it's not covered by a gasket or the intake manifold? (see area inside yellow circle) It's a semi-circular cavity, about as wide as my pinky finger, no idea where it goes, what it's connected to if anything.

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

I wanted first to see how this clone BBD worked, I think it idles better, but maybe with points I'm just not going to get a rock solid idle at the 500-550 rpm I want. I first ran it with the thin gasket they supplied, I was getting a very loud whistle from the throttle plates when I was...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

What does it mean if I can screw the idle screws all the way in, and the 318 still idles at 500 rpm, vac is 14 - 15 ? This is with the china dromedary BBD clone. With the screws out about 1 turn, rpm goes up, vac goes up, about 17-18 inches. Either the screws are not completely blocking flow...

Suggestions for valve cover gasket (318) rubber / silicone ?

I was looking for something a little more substantial than a cork gasket, but that's all I see on rock auto. About the only thing I see anywhere is the Assault Racing rubber gasket with steel shim core. Don't know if that's actually made by them or someone else, but $22 price is right. Any...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

I'm flipping through rock auto and the first year they show for the thicker mounting gasket is 1970. The specific gasket is Fel Pro 60188 (9/32 thick). in 1969 and all prior years they show Fel Pro 60045 (I'm guessing 1/16 thick from the photo). Maybe the BBD's didn't come from the factory...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

The older carbs only had 1 spring. So the rules changes requiring 2 springs? Doesn't that make pedal feel stiffer?

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

Here's a question. See the image below: So I'm basically asking here, was the gasket in the top photo the correct one to use on the carb in the middle photo, even though it completely blocks off the ports in the red box. My second question is - explain the difference in how the ports in the...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

If you have the notches (as shown in the photo) then the manifold gasket is *not* supposed to have notches (and vice versa) ? Do I have that right? And what's the deal with manifold gaskets (or maybe they're called flange gaskets) that are really thick (like 5/16 with metal sleeve inserts) vs...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

If this is a dual-plane manifold, does that mean each barrel goes to 4 cylinders and each barrel is a separate isolated path (no contact between barrel openings) ? Yes I see that it would be better to measure vac at a more central point, and choke pull-off is that point?

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

Cold compression test gives 150 - 160 PSI. Engine warm, choke fully open, carb is on low speed cam screw. I can get 17 inches vac at 500 rpm but it's a not a smooth even idle, needle fluctuates about 1 inch (so maybe 17 to 18 bouncing vac reading). I can get 22 inches at about 1200 - 1400 rpm...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

" long cranking after hot and shut off ". That's not the problem I have. I don't like how it idles, I think it idles too rich, plugs are sooty, I've played with the idle screws, best idle and vac are with screws about 1 turn out, maybe a bit less. I wasn't looking for how to really do an r&r...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

Here's the thing with these carbs. For me at least. You've got all these fiddly little parts and passages and you don't know (or I don't know) without a LOT of research what you should have, what works best, drill sizes, passage sizes, rod and jet sizes. I wrote this down but I think the...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

I'm going to try this: https://www.delphiautoparts.com/resource-center/article/how-to-test-the-alcohol-content-of-gasoline Based on some web searching I've just done, I'm reading conflicting info about which gasoline brands and which octane has or doesn't have ethanol here in Ontario. I was...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

I sanded the airhorn casting mating surface and I don't think it is seeping any gas now. The clip that holds the float hinge rod may have been interfering with the air horn seating fully against the body so I adjusted that also. The brass floats seem fine, no holes. I think over time the tabs...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

There's an Amazon vender that is selling a couple different carbs branded as "Dromedary". The two carbs (about $140 CAD each) are: Dromedary Carburetor Carb For Dodge Chrysler 318 Engine Carter BBD Lowtop 2 Barrel V8 5.2L MB-172-HCY and Dromedary Carburetor Carb 2100 Fits For Ford 289 302...

Question about buying Carter BBD for my 318 (unless I should look at something else)

Intake is 2468960 which seems to be 1967-69 (so it's the first casting made for the LA 318?) Heads are 4027593 (1977-84) I think they have small air holes under each exhaust port that are covered by my exhaust manifolds (3830684).
