Shims Under Main and Rod bearings

Think the compression will be somewhere 8.8 depending on final measurement. Here are pictures of the bearing. When I measured the journals I did check them 90 degrees apart. I did not find any R on the crank and the block got no maltese cross. Below are some pictures on what markings and...

Shims Under Main and Rod bearings

Thank you nm9stheham for taking your time to answer and explaining. Also appreciate all you others for taking the time. My guess is that the bearing fitted from factory is a .002" bearings and that's why the factory bearings are marked "AT-20". When I measured the rod journal again today it...

Shims Under Main and Rod bearings

The OEM bearing are marked AT-20 so that's why I thought something was 20 something of. I made a mistake when measuring my rod at first so that's why I assumed it was the rods because the mistake measurments was 20 thou off on the rods. I'm not sure any more what to think but I will measure...

Shims Under Main and Rod bearings

nm9stheham I will measure the rods tommorow at the break. But I think I may found the problem now when I was calculating the measurements taken on the rod big end from mm to inch. The measurement at the rod is actually 2.250" so a STD size bearing should fit then. The old bearing fit tight when...

Shims Under Main and Rod bearings

I also think that having the correct bearings would be the best RAMM, but since I live in Sweden and parts are non existent and I have to order them overseas and that cost a lot. I now already have STD size bearings that fit like they should against the journals. But I have a small gap between...

Shims Under Main and Rod bearings

I cant see why the rod would be out of round if you fit thin brass shims between the rod and bearing half Halifax? Toolmanmike if the engine left the factory with oversize rods with bearings that fit, why would I need new then? Doesn't machine shop sometims oversize crank bore and rods? The...

Shims Under Main and Rod bearings

Hey guys and girls I just bought a 75000 mileage 318. After doing a compression test the cyl 2 failed because a cracked valve seat and cylinder 2 have bad pitting. So I sent the block to machine shop for sleeving cyl 2 because the other cylinders was in really good condition with minimal wear. I...

Need help, advice with my 318 build

I have looked at the Lunati 10200702 cam as a possible cam to change to if I'm not satisfied with my current cam. Have looked at the XE 262 and also the 265 DEH as RRR suggested. But think the Lunati seems the most appealing for they are designed to work together with the .904" lifter diameter...

Need help, advice with my 318 build

Sorry for a very slow reply. But I have been busy lately. I'm done with the grinding the ports. I have left some polishing of the exhaust ports and maybe the chambers. Have cc one chamber at 61cc. But I'm little worried that I removed little to much at the "short turn radius" at my exhaust...

Need help, advice with my 318 build

Thanks for all response in the subject. I feel fine not going crazy at port matching as my starting idea was just to make the ports more even and a little better flowing. As I understand that smaller intake ports helps keep the port velocity up which in that case helps the lower rpm torque? Also...

Need help, advice with my 318 build

Thanks for all the opinions and guidance it really helps. I want to make the engine, trans, gearing and suspension work together well. My goal isn't really to make that 275 - 300 hp my goal is more to make we say that I'm going to have 250 hp at the crank. That those 250 hp is utilized and...

Need help, advice with my 318 build

I'm going to rebuild my 318 with desire to have much torque from idle and up. I want the engine to be strong and have relative good mpg, after that I want it to be "fast". So in that order I have choosed my parts to suit my needs. I have bought: KB167 30 over pistons Scat I beam rods 302...

    Cam Degreeing Questions

Valve timing open/close on my cam card should be measured @ .006 not @ .050. Got confused because on the cam card it says duration @ .050 so I thought you meant that and I missed read the other text about open/close timing. Will measure that tomorrow. Thanks

    Cam Degreeing Questions

Thanks, I understand but I wanted to be sure. "Check your valve timing events @ .050 against the cam card, for good measure" Does this mean .050" before or after max lift or is it .050" up from bottom of the lobe? Thanks FABO

    Cam Degreeing Questions

Today when I was degreeing my cam I bumped into some problems and have some questions. The cam is a Comp XE250H and have 106° intake centerline. I installed the brand new Comp Cams timing chain and sprockets with the 2 dots lined up. When I then was degreeing the cam I've got 59° 0.05" before...

    Rocker arms bad?

My rocker arms on the shaft is very loose especially on the intake rocker arms. This is roughly how big the gap between the rocker arms and the shaft. The gap vary on all of the rocker arms. Is it time to change to new rocker arms? Since I'm changing cam, lifters, springs and valve stem seals it...

318 4 bbl install and linkage questions

Thanks Dave for that explanation! Did what you explain and made a flat stock piece with 1 inch between the hole for the kickdown and it didn't work at all. The geometry was way of. But with your explanation my side to construct things kicked in and solved it like this: I had already made a...

318 4 bbl install and linkage questions

I changed from 2 bbl to 4 bbl also. I've made a throttle cable bracket that fixed the throttle cable and I extended the throttle pressure linkage that is hooked up to the carb. I have 0.24 inch (6mm) to much at the throttle pressure linkage rod to throttle stud at WOT. Everything else is right...

    Fun Fast 318

Thanks for the input as always Dave. I'm ambivalent about the cam choice. Talked to my part dealer about cams and he recommended me not to chose a Summit cam kit because of it's quality is often poor. But found these instead and the first cam is my favourite what do you think? XE250H...

    Engine oil smells gasoline

I only used a screwdriver to feel when it where on top. Not so accurate but I think it gave me a baseline for now. I only pressure tested one cylinder due to it was difficult to access the pressure gauge. I only tested when cold, disconnected power coil and cranked at least 3 seconds.

    Engine oil smells gasoline

Today I have found out that the timing mark has not slipped, checked it like you said 67cuda360. But for now I need a new volt regulator because the alternator charges too much 17-19 volt and some readings high as 20 volt. So i haven't runned it today and checked the timing. I'm afraid to burn...
