kind of confused by your question but sounds like your doing this without a kit since the kit would come with most connectors needed. If not painless is the best source of connectors/terminals and priced decent also.

it for sure sounds like a ground problem. plug the pigtail into the light bulb with the metal housing connected to a good ground and that is where you should start. and remember it needs to be a good tight ground since turn signals on the older cars are notorious for these little problems...
