Highest LIft cam with 68 340 with stock intake and carb

He doesn't "need" to do anything unless he wants it faster. It's already a low 13, high 12 car. But yes, headers would be the first step in making it faster. Next, would be the Victor 340 and Holley 800, because he already owns those and they will work fine.

Highest LIft cam with 68 340 with stock intake and carb

They are the Original X heads that have some work done on them. The work was done professionally but was done while the previous owner had it so I can't give specifics. Harland Sharp rockers.

Highest LIft cam with 68 340 with stock intake and carb

The Victor 340, Holley 800 coupled with Drag Radials and Headers, will make the car brutally fast. Right now the car can destroy the E70-14s. If you put the Victor 340 and Holley 800 on, it will still destroy the E70-14s. That's the information provided above, in a nutshell. And that was my...

Yes, but is isn't going to make it run hotter. He is over 195 already.

    340 running hot

Yes. This lower thermostat myth needs to go away. Look at it this way.... Let's say your car is ringing at 220 with a 180 stat. The 180 stat (if functioning correctly) is open at 220. Now, if you put in a 160 stat in an attempt to solve the issue of the car running at 220, what happens...

    340 running hot

Oh, good point. I forgot about that. Along with my bad "new" cap and bad "new" thermostat, I needed to add a spring to my lower radiator hose because my "new" hose didn't have one. Here is a link for the hose spring. Yes, it's for a mustang but your radiator hose won't care. Mustang...

    340 running hot

Does it run that temp at idle in traffic, when running down the highway or both? Coolant or straight water? Did you replace the cap and/or thermostat during the rebuild? Oddly enough. When I last went through my engine, I had some cooling problems. The new cap and thermostat that I had...

Just for fun, your opinion on this cam in this combo.

The engine already had a solid roller when I got the car back in 2004. The old cam was a Crower (the cam has been discontinued so I can't give the exact specs but it had a little less lift, more duration and about a 400hpm higher operating range). I have actually been running the combo from my...

Just for fun, your opinion on this cam in this combo.

I have a Victor 340 and a Holley 800dp in the garage, couple those with these. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hok-5204-1hkr/overview/year/1968/make/plymouth/model/barracuda Or a similar header, should be a big change.

    1973 340, want more power.

I have ran a quicker 60' and higher trap speed with a 340, through stock manifolds, but that doesn't really matter in this conversation. If I were to make a list of things that could be causing his car to be soft off the line, stock exhaust manifold would be towards the bottom. I do agree...

Exhaust manifolds, more than likely, are not hurting your off-line performance. I would look elsewhere for the problem. I'm not a fan of tall rear tires.

    1973 340, want more power.

His goal isn't 450 HP. His goal is low 12s in a street friendly, pump gas combo.

    1973 340, want more power.

Another question. Budget? I'm fairly positive you can reach your goal without a stroker and on a reasonable budget.
