Trailering to a race in freezing temperatures

I put a petcock in both drain plugs in the engine block. Then I use a 36 inch 3/8 extension to reach down between the header tubes to push on the wings and spin them open and closed. A long with the one in the bottom of the radiator gets enough water out that I have never had a problem with the...

Great job Mopar on the big win

Well we all know what's going to happen next to the FX class, if a Chevy does not top it by the next race. If that was a Chevy in the other lane then the sanction is already in the works.

I’m guessing this is to slow the Mopars down

mikedevore, Could you let us know what rule changes NHRA made for the Chevys. I am kind of curious if it was to the same severity as to what NHRA did to the Dodges. A 7.50 chase cert. says to me that a 7.58 class record is legal and a 7.49 needs to be recertified to the next quicker class or...

I’m guessing this is to slow the Mopars down

NHRA added 50 pounds to the Dodges a few years back, and when they kept winning, NHRA subtracted 50 pounds from the Chevys and Fords. Which put the Dodges with a 100 pound penalty and I think they did something to there super chargers too,to slow them down at that time.

Thanks for the update pittsburghracer, I guess I will have to start paying more attention to that class again.

I’m guessing this is to slow the Mopars down

Well I guess I read that one wrong, but even in Factory Stock Dodge hasn't won a race since the second season. Have they? So why would they bother to take more power away from them? Did the Dodges find more power and are now a threat to the Chevys, I do not know because I haven't followed...

I’m guessing this is to slow the Mopars down

Well I new that wasn't going to last long, once I saw that Dodge was low qualifier at the first race for the new NHRA class.

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

I had the same problem with Indy rockers with 600# pressure over the nose springs, lasted about 2 years before they fatigued to the point of snapping in the same area as yours one right after another. Have two friends with big block Chryslers with Harland sharp rockers, back in the 90's with...

    hedman fender well headers #75109 1 3/4"tubes

When I bought the 75110 Hedman's( 1 7/8" tubes, 3.5" collectors) for my Dart back about 23 years ago. There were 4 sets of these headers being made, 2 for the LA head exhaust port 1 5/8" tubes 3" col. , 1 7/8" tubes 3.5" col. and 2 sets for W2 heads 1 7/8" tubes 3" col. , 2" tubes 3.5" col. and...

Plug readers: What would you do??

RustyRatRod , RockinRobin has forgotten one important detail in the spark plugs for the 5.7,6.1 6.4 Hemi. These plugs only fit these engines, they have a 1 inch threaded reach (instead of the 3/4 and 1/2 inch reach of the older Mopar engines) , the 03 to 08 5.7 and 05 to 10 6.1 use a tapered...

    New best so close.....

Try going up a 1/2 round on each of the 6 adjusters( add static pressure) and see if the 60' get better( if they do ) go up another 1/2 round till the 60' start falling off from wheel spin. Then go back a 1/4 round. Spinning 20' out is probably the suspension and chassis and shock set up more...

    Holley/Proform 50cc pump install

In your second video, it looks to me like the secondary and primary boosters have a little too much delay in pulling fuel after the blades go wide open. You said the primary bowl float needs to come up higher, and it looked like to me that the secondary float is to low also. Turn the idle up a...

    slick decision

MoparMcK I run a totally different setup than you do, to tell you the truth I do not like Center force clutches. They are not a good drag race clutch, because in my opinion they hit way to hard and love to break driveline parts and your clutch should be the ware part not a busted up driveline. I...

    slick decision

MoparMcK May I ask which clutch are you running and how much rpm are you dropping on the hit. If it is more than a 1000 to 1500 rpm you will need to rethink your clutch set up. If you have a 500hp engine you need a clutch that will holds 500hp, if you have a 1000hp then you need one to hold a...

I agree with PRH, the 3.09 gearing is going to help the initial hit more than the the gear spread between first and second is going to hurt the acceleration of the car.

I don't know if any of you guys or gals have had closer races then this, but this is the closes race I have ever had in all my years of racing. I swear I won this race by less than an inch and this is my street/strip 4spd stick 66 Dart against a 64 Plymouth automatic strictly strip car. Margin...

    Terrible news for Lizi Musi..

The good thing is cancer treatments have come a long way in the last 20 years and more and more people are living longer with a better quality of life. I am one of those survivors, diagnosed with kidney and lung cancer in Dec. 2017 and in Jan/Feb of 2018 surgery that took out the right kidney...

    1972 Dodge Colt

Hyper pak, sorry but no I don't have anything for them. My 950 needs to be gone completely through. The 1050 I changed out the metering plate on the secondaries to a metering block off an 850 parts carb. By epoxying the top portion of the main air bleed circuit and using a dremel tool to reroute...

    1972 Dodge Colt

Yes there are 2 versions, I have 1 of each versions of the Holley 3 barrel carbs the 950 with the boosters in the secondaries, and a 1050 that has dump tubes in the secondaries instead of boosters. When you look at the secondaries you will see that the boosters and main air bleeds are closer...

No not a stop, That looks like a Clutch Tamer. The hydraulic cylinder controls how fast the clutch engages. When setup right it works just as good, if not better than an adjustable Soft-Loc slipper clutch.

    Manual Tranny Oil temp preparation

What I do is with my first fire up at the track. I put the car in neutral fire up the engine keep it running till it warms up enough so it has a steady idle, with the trans in neutral and clutch out it will be spinning the input shaft and cluster gear shaft which gets the trans fluid churning...

    W2 Heads

I ran a set of 810 W2 with 2.08 intake valves just like those, ported with the DC porting templates back in the late 80's and 90's. If I remember right they flowed around 290 cfm intake and 200 cfm exhaust. They had the small bolt pattern on the exhaust ports. But the Headman headers I ran with...

    1972 Dodge Colt

Hi Hyper Pak, My trans is a Dr-4 Jerico, I did run an 833 with the 3.09 first gear that I slick shifted myself and when that wore out I sent it to Liberty to have the same thing you had done to yours. That trans let go on a third gear shift, and switched to the Jerico for newer and stronger...

I snapped the threaded part off of my Ram Rod shifter too. It was cut down a little further into the thicker part of the handle and the threaded part of a 1/2" grade 8 fine thread bolt was welded on a few years back. I was at the track the weekend before last and I notest the pistol grip shift...

Thoughts and opinions for my 727

68 Hemi GTS, Funny I slick shifted a 3.09 first 833 myself and ran it for 5 or 6 years till it wore out the clutching teeth and became harder and harder to shift. I sent the gears and cluster to Liberty and had them pro shift 2nd and face plate 3rd and 4th. Seven passes latter 3rd gear let loose...

Thoughts and opinions for my 727

Yes, you are right Rusty but most racers have lost that art with all there electronic they need to win these days. With the adjustable slipper clutches and better race manual transmissions they have nowadays that art is starting to make a strong comeback. For those of us old enough to remember...

If Tim is who I think he is, just ask Tim he will fill you in on what a DR-4 Jerico is. DR is for drag race, -4 is 4 spd. Jerico is the name of the company.
