    clutch

I bought my first Duster in 76, a 1971, all stock 318 3 spd. The clutch pedal was spotty on returning. I added a light spring on the clutch fork of a 5 year old car. Over the years, no matter what clutch I put in, I needed the spring.

Ugh, was hoping to order one for my sons Duster soon. This is disturbing to hear. Let us know what happens.

    Clutch won't return off floor

There should be an adjustable rod connected to the fork at the bell housing. As the clutch wears it starts releasing closer to the floor and the play in the linkage increases. At least the trans itself is an easy swap if it comes to that!

    Clutch won't return off floor

Does your car have a additional return spring underneath on the clutch fork? Years ago I found I had to run enough spring down below to return the pedal.

    where am I going wrong?

I've heard you press the pedal down to extend the spring, and then fill the spaces between the coils with washers so the spring stays extended when the pedal is brought back up.

Preparing to do a auto to manual swap

I saw someone selling a complete setup on one of the Mopar sites on Facebook. Maybe A body Mopars? I'll keep an eye for it.

    3 speed to 4 speed

If your talking pre O.D. trans, yes. Providing your bellhousing has the extra threaded hole on the bottom right. The bottom right ear on the 4 spd is kicked out more than the 3 spd. You can see this unused hole with the 3 spd bolted in. I'm assuming since you have a floor shifted 3 spd you don't...

    18 VS 23 spline

You asked for input from 4 speed racers, not sure if one has replied yet, I see a lot of speculation. Here's my 2 cents from 20 years behind a 4 speed. My setup was a street/strip 340, metallic clutch disc, running mid 11's in street trim, high 10's on a small spray kit. Car would hook solid. I...

    833 belhousing adapter ring

I want to thank everyone who responded and tried to help, but I am abandoning this idea and just going to keep the auto due to expenses coming up elsewhere. Great group of guys here!

    833 belhousing adapter ring

If it were that simple..There is no bearing retainer made for this size situation, also its really hard to find a bell housing for a slant that is the correct size retainer hole for the standard 833. And $$ if you do find one. The O.D. bells are really easy to find at a reasonable price. And...

    833 belhousing adapter ring

Thanks duster360. Brewers offers 4.35 to 4.80 and 4.80 to 5.125 dukeboy, but not 4.35 to 5.125, appreciate your response. I still think if someone made an aluminum one it could be welded in place from the inside and would work fine.

    833 belhousing adapter ring

Why doesn't anyone make a adapter ring to go from a regular 833 4 spd with the 4.35 dia. bering retainer to the 5.125 O.D. bell housing? I'd like to put a non O.D. 4 speed behind my 71 slant. I can find O.D. bell housings all day for the slant but no regular 4 speed ones. Anyone on here with a...

What is an alternative shifter to use besides the factory units

The new handle will work in the stock boot. I'm pretty sure all aftermarket Hurst handles used a different thread than Mopar, use one of there balls or a tee handle. I believe at one time there was an adapter for the threads but not sure if its still available. I had no problem in my car with it...

What is an alternative shifter to use besides the factory units

I tried a few in my Duster, ran the short one for awhile but went back to the stock handle for the competition plus shifter, I believe its the one on your link. It was most comfy in the seat so I could hit a gear good, used a tee handle on top.

3 speed bell parts same as 4 speed?

Did this swap years ago, as Joesedge said the bellhousing has to have the bottom right hole for the 4 spd. Its out farther than the 3 spd hole. If you have that, slide the 3 out and slide the 4 right in. Nothing else needed.
