That's a shame. I went to a show one time that featured (and I hate this term) "rat rod" style cars that all looked like they had been dragged out of a field. They wouldn't let us in with our car because it was "too nice." They didn't want nice looking cars with shiny paint and nice interiors...

Cleaned everything up, dressed those damaged areas and ran the mating surface over 220 grit on a sheet of glass. Picked up a new gasket and layed it over the mating surface. Looks pretty good. Going to work on it some tomorrow. Hope to have her running in the next day or two. You can see in the...

The cylinder looks good. I didn't see any damage at all inside. The part that you circled is about a business card thickness inside the gasket sealing surface. I noticed that spot right away and checked it with the gasket. The gasket was undamaged as well.

I busted the ceramic insulator out of a spark plug and cut the electrode off, worked a piece of plastic tubing into the hole, then cut the finger end off of a latex glove and attached it with masking tape. Thread into No. 1 spark plug hole and crank the engine by hand and the "balloon" will...

X2 on that oxy/acetylene bead. Looks good, and certainly a dying art. I do some with a Cobra torch. Looking to get a lens for aluminum oxy/acetylene welding. It takes practice, but persistence pays dividends!
