Ok, I guess I don't understand. Theoretically, if the non-HP pistons, at 1.84 pin height, are .090 farther down the hole (~9.2:1) than the HP pistons at 1.92 pin height, would milling that .090 off the heads, or deck, get me back to HP compression (~10:1) ?

I think if you look over to the right, the 1st model column covers Valiant, Barracuda, and Dart, so the emblem could be spec'd for a Barracuda, and they used the same one mid-year on the Dart GTS. Re: the GTS emblems....the "GTS" had not yet been invented before the printing of your parts book...

Just measured my ‘68 block with 1.84 pin height Sealed Power 366NP pistons... about .051 in the hole... confirms 69 Cuda 440’s numbers.

Thanks Rob. I see 1.84 for the Sealed Power cast pistons, and 1.92 for KB forged.I assume the taller factory cast ones were 1.92 as well then, to gain back the lost compression?

Ok, thanks. How did they do that? Did the '68-up block have lower deck heights from the factory?

I just checked Sealed Power pistons for '67-down (closed chamber heads) and '68 up (open chamber heads) and they have the same pin height.

How did Mopar keep the same comp. ratio in a 383 when changing from early closed chamber heads to later open chamber heads? Early heads are ~73.5 cc's, and later heads are ~79.5 cc's. What changed to maintain 10 to 1 compression?...rod length, piston pin height???

Thanks Rob, but I'm staying with the .040 over Sealed Power 366NP's that are in it now. There's hardly any ridge, and the cylinders just need a scuff to be good. BtW, love the videos...keep 'em comin'....

Those were the SS HEMI - Darts in '68.

Actual '69 M code manifolds are longer in the lower "swoop" area, to compensate for higher deck 440. New motor mounts might make the situation worse.
