    Torsion Bar Crossmember Replacement

We did it to a '69 Valiant (whole front frame sections and crossmember as a whole piece) and had the car sitting on jackstands at the front corner of the rocker panels. Measure twice, level a few times....then weld.

Next silly question V8 center link??

Some people I've met have a /6 in their 63-66 A-body AND the V8 centerlink already in there, perhaps by accident or just because it got in there for some reason.

Flaming River Steering Box. Worth the money?

I bought a replacement 16:1 manual box from Firm Feel in 1999 and it's been a champ ever since, no problems at all. It needed a little tightening after the first year, but that was it.

    Front Frame Rail Rot

The repairs look good. Clean and coat it all with some good rust encapsulating paint like Rust Encapsulator, Por-15, Master Series Silver or whatever you like. Down the road if the area becomes a problem, you might have to replace the whole frame rail but not if that holds up and it's a daily...

Whats better Manual steering or Power?

I love the feel of the road and handling of my 16:1 manual steering on my '65 Barracuda S. It IS hard to park, but I'm 6' tall and fairly strong...never really been an issue I can't deal with.

    Removal of undercoating

I'll vouch for heat gun with putty knife and lots of elbow grease. Then spray on some WD-40 and wire brush for the final residue. Then you can degrease with some heavy duty degreaser and some green 3M (or similar) scouring pads. Rinse with water and repeat...then rinse and dry and ready to paint.

    Subframes

Yes, we did it to my '69 Valiant. Read all about it here: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=15895 We put in new front frame, parts of the rear frame, new inner rockers and all new floor pans. Very big job, not for the meek. It was the first project like this for...

    manual box Q

My car came with a 16:1 box and I love it! Of course you want that! It's awesome. If you are weak in the arms/shoulders then maybe you'll find it tough. I am pretty strong, and I do find it tough to park sometimes, but on the road it's great! You feel the road and the car....it's just the best.

How to ID quick ratio steering box

You have to turn it. 3.5 turns from one side to the other if it's a 16:1 fast ratio.

    fast ratio pitman arm

16:1 is considered the fast ratio, 24:1 is considered the slow ratio. I have the 16:1 manual box, I love it. Yes, it's a little stiff manuevering to park but going down the road the car has a great feel and is stiff and holds the road. I can turn a corner with one hand (Starbucks in the...

Early A-Body Fast Ratio Steering Box

There's a good chance it would be. Why not remove it then find out? I have never heard of any way except by counting the turns.

Need help with front sub frame swap

The '68 frame should be wider. It might be longer too? Not sure. I'd say NO, it won't work. You need an Early A-body frame. I was pretty skeptical about the whole operation at first, but now that it's done I realize it was the only option to save this car and it was only a few steps more...

Need help with front sub frame swap

I've been doing this to a '69 Valiant. Different frame, but same procedure. See this thread with lots of photos. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=15895 You have to drop everything in the front, engine, K-frame, Torsion bars, brakes, etc. Then you have to drill out all...

    Torsion Bars in Early A-body + 340

Tom Condran (Performance Handling for Mopars) recommends the .89 bars for a car with a 340! I have the "heavy duty" (892/893) bars in my Barracuda, .87. They came with the Formula S package. They are the commonly called 340 bars. The .89 are called the 383 bars.

    A-Body differences

Just bought a Dart floor pan, rocker to rocker and rear seat perches up to the front, almost to the crossmember and low and behold, it's longer than the '69 Valiant it's going into! I guess my '69 Valiant has the 108" wheelbase and a Dart has the 111" right? It seems, upon initial...

    A-Body differences

Brambles: I'm doing the same with a '69 Valiant. We're going to drill out the spot welds all along the bottom of the inner fenders, front rad cradle and lower firewall and put in a new front frame section with crossmember. Is 3.5 inches the right size for rear spring shackle?

Okay, thanks. It sorta looks right to me, but I have nothing else to compare it to right now. There's some weird shocks with springs around them installed too, maybe that's what's giving it so much height.

Is 3.5 inches the right size for rear spring shackle?

The Dart Sport seems to ride really high at the back. The rear shackle is 3.5 inches from bolt center to bolt center. Is this right, or is this a longer than stock shackle?

    power to manual conversion.

Manual steering is where it's at! 16:1 ratio and you'll never want anything but! A little stiff to parallel park, but how often do you do that?

    Rebuilding power steering box

Mine had a broken worm gear. I bought a replacement from Firm Feel. Very expensive, but has been perfect since the day I got it 5 years ago. Expensive because I have the 16:1 fast ratio steering. I wouldn't have it any other way. If you have manual steering and want a good feel with...
