Im no expert on V6 engines, but if you think about it, the engine/trans using the stock trans mount will locate the back of the block in the same position as a v8. I believe the main issue is the firewall clearance on these early A's. They were not built with the idea of a v8 being installed...

I suppose the motor is locked ? Before giving up on it, pull it and disassemble. You might find it needs a sleeve or two - the other bores might clean up with a hone or an over bore ?? Give her a whirl, I've seen worse !

Make sure the correct type bulbs are installed in the sockets, sometimes a dual filament bulb in the wrong place can cause issues. I also had some problems with the lights in my 73 dart sport. Turned out the new bulbs I installed - one of them was faulty, tore my hair out finding the issue...
