    Solid Engine Mounts, 408 in a 71 Dart..thoughts?

I made some solid mounts for my 66 for this season, I have not run mine yet, I am expecting a lot more vibration. Pettyblue, you have solids on yours? If so, did you make your own?

    360 advice

If your going as far as changing pistons at least check everything out, and build the engine up right. What are your intentions for the car? Budget? These 2 items will determine what to do.

    11 second street car?

you missed the point, 73. talkin smack about my 408 making "0nly" 450 hp. I never said how much it made, only that with 450 hp you can get in the 11's. If you ever get it running, I can show you what 450 hp can do if you're up to it. I'll pull one plug wire.

    11 second street car?

Yeah, you need to bring that thing up here and see how it runs. Totally different ball game. HP estimates don't work at my track. What kinda money do you think I spent, anyway? I'll bet it's less than you got in that, and mine is running.

    11 second street car?

I agree! I built a 408 from my 360 with eddy heads and a air gap manifold and 282 solid comp cam that runs 11's at 5800'. It's pretty straightforward to build a 408 that will make 450 hp, which is enough to get you into the 11's in a 3200# car.

    Indy Head/Bad Rap

I agree with moper about nonexistant customer service. I wonder how long a company, even with good products, can exist in tough times with terrible customer support. I dealt with them only once, and learned my lesson. There are too many other things to deal with in life, and I do this for fun.

    Build me a Small block

Just a side point. Stuff has gotten expensive and to illustrate: I intended to build a 375 horse 318 to play with on the cheap. Yeah right, I am stalled at 2k and I haven't even bought the cam and lifters. Machine work was $600 and misc parts are going to cost me another $3-500. I wish we could...

    Build me a Small block

12:1, which is like 11:1 at sea level, eddy airgap and 750 mech sec. carb.

    Build me a Small block

I agree. My 66 runs 12's at 5800 feet with a stock stroke 360 with OOTB eddy heads and a solid cam. 1-5/8 Dougs, 904 and 4.30 gears. Your 65 is light enough where 400 horse should move it real well.

318 build. what would you do?

I thought I could build a $1500 318 for my bracket car but that number has been passed and I still need to buy a cam & lifters and other misc parts. moper has the right idea, doing it the way he set out will give you more satisfaction for sure and when you are ready for more engine your...

building a FAST legal small block

I have pondered a lot about a 66 D/Dart clone in the FAST class and if they would allow it. Think about it: The D/Darts had solid cams, headers, holley carbs right off the dealer floor. A 360 shortblock with some closed chamber 273 heads, although the heads would be a restriction I think...

    392 stroker oiling problems

When the block was tubed, what size were the main galleys drilled to? They should be drilled to 9/32" through the tube. And I would make sure that there is no flash left on the inside of the tube causing a restriction. Also, it seems that I saw in an older mopar engine book that they were adding...

    Oil Pan Help small blocks

djwhog, I also added a Moroso 3 qt accumulator because I didn't want to pull the engine out and pop for a new higher capacity pan. I haven't tried it out yet because of our lousy weather, but the advantage is I can prelube the engine before I start it. I have no idea how well it will work, but I...

    headers or not to headers

I have seen headers as well as manifolds leak/burn gaskets. On my friend's 71 challenger 440, which I babysit, the original magnum manifolds make it difficult to access spark plugs and they constantly burn pipe and flange gaskets. I am begging him to pop for the tti headers for his application...

    K&N FILTER INQUIERY

Wix also....I had a /6 in my dart B4 the 360, and with a fram it took 15 seconds to build pressure after she sat a day or so. With the anti-drainback valve in the Napa/Wix filter, pressure was up in 2-3 seconds. Frams are okay for other peoples cars, just not mine.

    Floating Pins how to?

the pistons should have grooves on the outside end of the pin hole for locks, I like the spiral locks even though they are a pain to install. You can buy the locks seperate from Hughes engine, etc.

    j heads..more perf. questions

might have been 63dartman who started the thread cause I already blew the big bucks on the eddy heads and am so far happy with them. J-head to eddie swap?

cheapest I have seen them is at jegs, you really have to shop around. I wound up buying mine from Hughes engine, they were fair priced and they would also talk to me about the swap whereas summit and jegs just want to sell the part. You need the headbolts to go with the heads. I am impressed...
